Skill Passives and Talents Overview in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Level Up - Dynasty Warriors Origins

There are a total of seven skill trees in Dynasty Warriors Origins. Each is unlocked as you level up and increase your weapon ranks. There are 10 weapons to unlock in Dynasty Warriors Origin: nine during the main campaign and one extra after completion. Each weapon can be progressed to rank eight during the main campaign. Therefore, your goal is to use multiple weapon types to increase the level via weapon proficiency.

Weapon Proficiency is experience gained after each battle. All weapons gain proficiency; however, the weapon you have equipped will level faster. Moreover, you use portable (consumable) items, accessories, and weapon traits to increase proficiency gains further. You can see your experience profiency bar in the lower left of your User Interface in grey with a weapon icon. You should swap and use multiple weapons to increase your ranks evenly toi make the fastest progress.

Lastly, to unlock each skill, you must have skill points. Skill points come from combat and consumables.

Below, we summarize the best skill passives, along with the ones you should take in each skill tree.

  • Meat Bun Glutton
  • Aerial Retribution
  • Endurance Boost: Spur On
  • Back on Your Feet

Whirlwind Kick

  • Unleash a swinging kick with blinding speed. During the approach, you will disappear and be vulnerable to enemy attacks.
  • Battle Art
  • 20 skill point cost

This is a battle art (ability) that cost one bravery and rushes ahead. Whirlwind Kick is particularly useful at the start of the game where mobility and range is critical. Specific weapons lack any sort of movement option, and you should consider this battle art when transitioning to a slow weapon.

Meat Bun Glutton

  • Enables you to hold more meat buns.
  • Passive
  • 40 skill point cost

In Dynasty Warriors Origins, you use meat buns to heal yourself. The Meat Bun Glutton skill passive gives you one more meat bun. Moreover, these passives are found throughout other skill trees. If you take them all, you will have the ability to bring six meat buns into every fight. This helps keep your survivability high and especially since they replenish after each battle.

Aerial Retribution

  • Take a counterattack stance. If attacked while in this stance, you will unleash a shockwave and go airborne
  • Battle Art
  • 30 skill point cost

Another useful battle art to unlock early is Aerial Retribution. It allows you to hold block and counterattack once hit. The downside is that you need to expect an incoming attack; otherwise, you waste bravery and time. However, if you counterattack, you’ll automatically go airborne. This is a great battle art to pair with the Wheels weapon where you lack survivability early.

Endurance Boost: Spur On

  • Encourage your horse, replenishing some Endurance.
  • Passive
  • 40 skill point cost

Mobility is key when riding from town to town and Endurance Boost Spur on lets you repeatedly press your L button on PC to gain endurance. Therefore, you can go back and forth between sprinting and charging ahead or pressing the Musou key to gain endurance. This bonus stacks on top of other mobility bonuses throughout these skill trees.

Back on Your Feet

  • Restores Health automatically to a set amount upon reaching low health.
  • Passive
  • 50 skill point cost

The back-on-your-feet skills give you a small amount of health when you would otherwise die. This is great early on when meat buns are hard to find. Moreover, you can avoid consuming meat buns since you get a once-per-battle health boost. Conserve the meat buns early, then take advantage of this passive when you need it most.

  • Dispersion Arrow

Perfect Evade

  • Grants Bravery when evading just as the opponent attacks.
  • Passive
  • 50 skill point cost

The perfect evade skill is critical for building bravery. With perfect evade and parrying, you have two defensive mechanisms for generating bravery. Parrying is great because there is a small stun after it is done successfully. However, on higher difficulties, it can be challenging to land it perfectly. Perfect Evade is much more forgiving. If you miss or get it correctly, build bravery.

Meat Perceiver

  • Allows you to see the position of meat buns when you activate Eyes of the Sacred Bird.
  • Passive
  • 40 skill point cost

The Meat Perceiver skill is one of the best for survivability early on. You can pan the camera around, looking for green pots containing meat buns. Moreover, when you hit the eagle eye, your minimap will indicate meat buns as well. Therefore, make sure not to rush off into the next fight if officers aren’t in trouble. You can double back and collect the meat buns to fill up your health or replenish your supply.

Greater Gratification

  • Boost Health recovery when using a meat bun.
  • Passive
  • 40 skill point cost

The Greater Gratification skill is great for increasing meat buns effectiveness. While this seems obvious, your health will continue to increase with ranks. If you don’t take Greater Gratification, the meat buns will become less and less effective. Therefore, you should take every rank of Greater Gratification skill as you progress to keep up with healing needs.

Refreshing Rescue

  • Boost Health recovery upon rescuing an officer facing a desperate fight.
  • Passive
  • 40 skill point cost

The best skill for saving officers is Refreshing Rescue. You will increase the health restored to each officer, and it can make a dramatic difference in their survivability. Look for a yellow bar and a pop-up when an officer is in trouble. Move near the NPC ally to give them a flood of health. Therefore, you don’t need to micro-manage each officer but pivot and rush to their aid when the situation dictates. Sometimes, they will even heal to full with this skill!

Dispersion Arrow

  • Fire arrows that follow enemies. Holding the button increases the number of arrows.
  • Passive
  • 50 skill point cost

The best overall skill to get is Dispersion Arrow because its a useful battle art on any weapon or build. Costing four bravery, you shoot out a ranged arrow at enemies.
