Jeff the Land Shark is one of the characters that you need to learn to counter in Marvel Rivals. Here are a few tips to help you.
Jeff may be the most adorable character in Marvel Rivals, but that doesn’t stop him from being an absolute menace on the battlefield. His main motive in any match is to heal his teammates. However, ironically, he can also deal plenty of damage. We don’t even have to get started about the Ultimate that he has.
Before we jump on to any tips on how to counter him, let’s learn more about all the Abilities that he has in the game as of Season 0. We may see him getting nerfed or buffed in the future. But for now, he has three Abilities apart from the basic attacks and healing.
Jeff the Land Shark’s Abilities in Marvel Rivals
First and foremost, he has the Joyful Splash that can heal all his allies pretty quickly. This water cannon is the most effective way of healing enemies. When you want to contribute to the team’s DPS, you can use Aqua Burst to damage enemies.
Apart from these basic attacks, Jeff can play Hide and Seek by swimming underground and healing himself passively in the process. He is also harder to hit this way because of the smaller hitbox. He can leave behind Healing Bubbles for allies to self-heal when they wish to heal and Jeff is not there.
Frozen Spitball and New Friends are team-up abilities that work alongside Luna Snow and Groot, respectively. Frozen Spitball replaces Aqua Burst while New Friends lets Jeff sit on Groot’s shoulders.
His Ultimate, It’s Jeff lets him swallow all characters, whether allies or enemies, who were oblivious enough to be standing in a particular radius. The Land Shark can then spit them out or let them sit inside his belly. Enemies receive damage over time while allies heal.
His Passive ability, Oblivious Cuteness, also allows him to take reduced damage from Critical Hits.

Tips to Counter Jeff in Marvel Rivals
Since Jeff is a Strategist, he doesn’t primarily resort to offense. So, keeping his original tactics in mind, we’ll let you in on a few tips to help you face him effectively on the field.
(NOTE: These tips are subjective and may not work for everyone)
- Take him out on priority.
- Using most ranged attackers may not work well against Jeff, since he can swim away using one of his abilities.
- Let melee characters deal damage to Jeff behind the enemy frontlines. Characters like Iron Fist, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Hulk can work the best for this job.
- If you use ranged characters, try to go for Black Widow or Hawkeye who can one-shot Jeff or bring him closer to elimination.
- Non-melee and non-long-range characters like the Scarlet Witch and Dagger are also perfect for getting the job done because you don’t need to lock in on the target.
- Characters like Psylocke, Black Panther, and Rocket Raccoon can dash away as the Ultimate animation begins. Spider-Man and Venom can ‘swing’ out of the way. However, if levitating characters like Hela, Doctor Strange, Iron Man and Scarlet Witch gets swallowed, they must get ready to use their mobility ability to get back to safety as soon as Jeff spits them back out.
- If feasible, allies who did not get swallowed by Jeff must kill him as soon as possible to let all the others out.
