While all characters are perfectly viable, some are more so than others, and this is very much the case for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The web-slinger is one of the best characters in the game, with strong abilities and a devastating Ultimate.
A good Spider-Man can rush behind enemy lines unnoticed and kill the healer, leaving the enemy team at a disadvantage. A good Spider-Man is also frustrating in a 1v1 due to his agility. Tips To Counter Spider-Man
Tips for Close and Long-Range
Your best bet against a character like Spider-Man is to avoid 1v1s of any sort. However, if it does come down to it, you can rely on characters such as the Punisher to deal damage at close range. The Punisher’s shotgun hits like a truck and can make all the difference in a 1v1.
Iron Fist is one of the best 1v1 hard counters to Spider-Man currently present in the game and is capable of shredding Spidey in a 1v1. Iron Fist can parry all of Spider-Man’s burst attacks and can counterattack easily. To make matters worse for Spidey, Iron Fist can also double jump and chase him down for a finishing blow.
You can also punish Spidey escape attempts with both Punisher and Black Widow. Should Spidey try to bail, you can switch to your rifle and gun him down. Black Widow can also be used to the same effect to punish Spider-Man from a distance. Her rifle also deals ridiculously high damage, so a well-placed shot should do the trick.
Defense Against Spidey
Characters capable of stun locks are also highly useful when defending against Spider-Man. Mantis is capable of doing so by sedating Spider-Man, saving herself, and rendering him useless and vulnerable in a 1v1. The other way to deal with Spidey’s 1v1 barrage is to simply play a Vanguard. Magneto and Doctor Strange are capable of using shields that can withstand Spider-Man’s offense.
If things get heated, you can always attempt to escape. However, Spider-Man is one of the best characters at chasing you down. In this instance, Jeff the Land Shark is your best bet. Jeff can go underground, up and around walls to escape Spidey and live to heal another day.
At the end of the day, countering Spider-Man comes down to picking the right characters and the right battles. The few characters we’ve mentioned above do a good job of dealing with Spider-Man. Another tip we’d offer is never to be alone and isolated. Try to stay in pairs at the very least to avoid giving Spidey his 1v1s.
