Securing a win in Competitive matches in Marvel Rivals is no easy task. Even at lower ranks, the people you play against are potentially the ones who often have the caliber of a Grand Master rank. When observed through a common sight, winning a Competitive game seems to require skills and teamwork. While that is unarguably true, there are more factors that come into play.
Win Your Next Competitive Match in Marvel Rivals
NOTE: This article reflects the writer’s opinions.
Not every match can be won using the same trick. So, we will try to provide you with some tips that are practically applicable in most situations, whether you have the upper hand in the match or not. Don’t stick to these in every scenario because your experience may be different than mine in many cases. But I have found that following these tricks can help you out in most Competitive matches against fierce enemies:
- Know When to Stop Pushing
- Stick to Your Roles
- Defend the Backline
- Play Your Character
- Voice Cues
1. Know When To Stop Pushing

One of the biggest mistakes that a team member can make is not playing by the rules. I know. Technically, pushing isn’t defying any rules. However, your primary objective should be to defend the point effectively and not push the enemies into their spawn. We don’t suggest stopping the push altogether. However, striking a balance is an important part of winning any Marvel Rivals Competitive match.
If you are playing a Domination match, received an Ace! or your enemies are only coming back from spawn and you already have the objective, try finding new ways to defend the point so you can be more undefeatable rather than pushing too far up. The problem with pushing too far is that the enemy’s spawn will heal them much more effectively than any of your Strategists combined, and if somebody flanks the point, you could end up losing the match.
As for Convergence and Convoy matches, try leaving just enough people behind for the payload to move fast enough and take the rest of the positions a little further so you can maintain that pressure on the enemies.
2. Stick To Your Roles

This can be a hard pill to swallow, but not everybody sticks to their roles when playing competitively in Marvel Rivals. This is a big reason behind the humiliating scoreboard that might make you switch to Quick Play instead. By roles, I also refer to your position in the team comp. So, if somebody takes up Jeff the Land Shark, they can’t go rushing the enemy frontline for obvious reasons and neither should Doctor Strange be at the back of his own comp.
Don’t be in a straight formation either. It is good to switch things up based on what the situation demands. In such circumstances, I suggest you go with your gut. However, one should also pay attention to their allies. If my Peni Parker is staying at the backline, I shouldn’t rush further as a Strategist or a Duelist for a while because they might be setting some things up or testing the waters. But if people don’t accept their roles in the team comp, politely ask them to switch to a character they are comfortable playing with in that specific role/position and take their place instead.
3. Defend the Backline

It is almost impossible to win a Competitive match without a Strategist healing the team. The role of the Strategist can be pretty hectic when all teammates are scattered about because they have to focus on everybody receiving damage at the same time. Things get even more frustrating when you are getting dove by Iron Fist, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Wolverine together for some reason.
If there is no Strategist left to heal, no matter how good that player was, you will get no heals to continue your push. Moreover, the person playing the role of a primary healer can get frustrated and quit. To avoid that from happening, you would want to protect your healers. Anti-dive characters like Namor can be of great help in such scenarios where the divers are aggressive.
4. Play Your Character

One of the best ways to win is picking a character that you resonate with, and by “resonate” I refer to a character that you are actually good at playing. My ideal team comp to go is always two Vanguards, two Duelists, and two Strategists. However, if the team is filled with 4 Duelists and 2 Strategists, that can also work great if everybody knows how to play their respective characters!
The best thing about Marvel Rivals is the lack of role queue, in my opinion. This allows for the most unexpected team synergies to take place. It’s best to contribute to the team by keeping pressure applied to the enemies rather than picking a character just to make the team comp balanced and not contribute anything to the team. However, if the enemy has figured out the ways to hard-counter your characters, you should always consider changing the character or your strategies.
5. Voice Cues
![Galacta is prepared with some more dialogue lines (Source: NetEase Games)](https://static.deltiasgaming.com/2025/01/Galacta-Marvel-Rivals-S1.png)
Voice cues, be it from a playable character in the match, or from Galacta herself, can be pretty annoying. Irrespective of how you feel about them, paying attention to voice lines is important to win any Competitive game in Marvel Rivals. There is a reason why I say this. First and foremost, Gali reiterates what is already going on in the match. She provides the players with commentary. While she states the obvious most of the time, players who are too busy focusing on pushing or chasing their personal vendetta may forget about the mission objective or its progress in real-time. This is where Galacta comes in.
Another way that voice cues become important in Marvel Rivals is by recognizing what Ultimate voice lines belong to your allies, and which ones are from the enemy team. A slip-up once in a while is fine, but if you keep falling for the voice cue bait, your Competitive match is going to be pretty difficult to win. Trust me. You would not want to walk into the enemy Moon Knight Ult, thinking it was one of your own.
