Learn about The Slormancer’s performance, controls, and compatibility on the Steam Deck, with insights from developers.

The Slormancer is a 2D pixel graphics ARPG developed by a team of two at Slormite Studios. It draws inspiration from old-school games like Diablo and Path of Exile with hack-and-slash elements. The story follows a hero on a quest to defeat the Slormancer, a warlock from the distant past. The player can choose one of three classes, each with their own unique and extensive leveling system. With the game’s seemingly straightforward controls and 2D graphics, it seems like an ideal game for Valve’s Steam Deck.
The Slormancer can be played on the Steam Deck. However, the game is not Steam Deck verified. With no word on the game’s official pages regarding Steam Deck compatibility, we have taken a deep dive into player feedback to paint a complete picture of how well the game performs on Valve’s handheld.
How Well Does The Slormancer Run on Steam Deck?

The Slormancer is the perfect game to play on the Steam Deck if you don’t mind pixel graphics in games. The ARPG’s easy-to-understand but hard-to-master combat mechanics and progression system are a breeze to navigate with the handheld. While you may face some issues with controllers, such as difficulty in searching the Ancestral Skill page or hovering over effect icons, the Steam Deck’s touchscreen allows you to do so intuitively.
There are further gripes while using a controller, such as having difficulty assigning all four Ancestral Skills, trying to play with a build requiring placement and precision, and menu navigation. Several issues are being addressed by the developers and are expected to be patched.
Furthermore, the developers have expressed their desire to make the game Steam Deck verified. According to them, only a few small UI fonts in places are holding the game back from getting Steam Deck verified. However, they assure players that they are working on the game’s ports and will soon have the issues sorted out. The Slormancer developers on a Steam forum wrote:
“We currently can’t get Verified because of small UI fonts in a few places. We’ll work into getting this done once we’re done with content and start working on the various ports we want for the game.”
Ultimately, The Slormancer is a great match for the Steam Deck. While you can use a controller for convenience, the game performs even better with the handheld’s features. If you have enjoyed games like Slay the Spire, Monster Sanctuary, and Gunfire Reborn on the Steam Deck, The Slormancer will have you comfortably sinking dozens of hours into it.
