Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a turn-based game that mixes traditional turn-based elements with real-time action. The game incorporates real-time dodges and parries, adding a level of reflexive skill to its combat. While this system allows brains and brawn to come together, it also leads to some ridiculously difficult boss fights, such as the Chromatic Bruler.

The Chromatic Bruler is a tank-like boss found on the Continent, near the Yellow Harvest region. The boss uses an anchor to beat you down. This unconventional weapon can throw players off, and if you’re struggling, we’re here to help. In this guide, we will explain how to defeat the Chromatic Bruler in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

The Chromatic Bruler has a glowing red weak spot on its body that you can shoot to deal high damage. Once that’s addressed, your next best strategy is to exploit Chromatic Bruler‘s weakness to Ice. To do so, we recommend bringing in Lune and Sciel. Lune’s Ice Lance and Typhoon are solid choices, with the latter doubling as a healing skill, too. Sciel can use her Sealed Fate attack to deal high Ice damage as well.

The Chromatic Bruler may hit hard, but it only has two attacks. The first is the spinning attack. This is a 5-hit combo where the Chromatic Bruler swings its large anchor to strike you. The boss begins this attack by lifting the anchor behind its head and then swinging it underhanded toward you. The first four strikes are identical and can be parried rhythmically. The fifth strike is a ground smash. For the first four, press the parry button just as the weapon begins to move along the arc. For the final strike, there is a slight delay, so parry accordingly.

The other attack to watch for is the smashing attack. The boss lifts the anchor and smashes it vertically into the ground. This is a jump attack, meaning you have to jump over it. Since it has three hits, you must jump over it three times. The jump indicator will notify you when to jump, so react accordingly. Parry, counterattack, and exploit the boss’s Ice weakness to win this battle.
