Castles in Dead Rails are rare, high-stakes locations that spawn between forts on the map. You’ll usually start seeing them after the 20 km mark, though they tend to appear more consistently further into your run. They stand out with their stone construction and turreted corners, making them easy to spot from a distance. If you confuse it with Fort Constitution, check the material—forts use wood, castles use stone.
The area around a castle is dangerous. Vampires can spawn at any time, even during the day, and they’ll aggressively pursue anything that enters their territory. Step inside the walls and the threat ramps up fast. The interior is loaded with werewolves that swarm in numbers, and they hit hard. You’ll need solid preparation if you want to survive long enough to loot anything valuable.
Inside the castle, you’ll find some of the best rewards in the game. Gold bars are common here, and the Vampire Knife is a major draw. This melee weapon not only deals solid damage but also restores health on hit, making it one of the most effective tools for close-range combat.
Essential Gear Before You Enter
Before you even think about entering, make sure you’re equipped. Bring at least 100 rounds of ammo, ideally more if you’re relying on a turret. Carry bandages and Snake Oil since you’ll take hits whether you like it or not.
