This guide will discuss what you need to know about the creaking in Minecraft and how to defeat this new mob type in the game.
The creaking in Minecraft is a new spooky mob to be added in the game alongside the Pale Garden biome. It is one of the contents included in The Garden Awakens update, also referred to as The Winter Drop in the development versions. The update is set to arrive on December 3 2024.
Revealed during the Minecraft Live 2024, the Creaking is a mob that only spawns in the Pale Garden biome and at night. To clarify, it doesn’t spawn in the daytime even if the area is dark. Its behavior is similar to that of The Weeping Angels from the Doctor Who series. These moves move when you are not looking. However, they freeze in place when you are staring directly at it.
In this guide, we’ll discuss what you need to know about the creaking in Minecraft.
What You Need To Know About the Creaking in Minecraft
What is The Creaking?
The creaking is unique because of how it interacts with the player. It’s the opposite of the endermen that gets angry and attacks if you stare at them too long. As for the creaking, it only moves if they are not within your line of sight.
This makes it very dangerous to explore the Pale Garden biome at night. You’ll know there’s a creaking nearby if you hear, as the name suggests, creaking sounds. It sounds like tree branches snapping or being stepped on. You’ll also be hearing growling noises from the creaking.
Fortunately, they only spawn during night time. Even if the area is dark, they won’t appear if it’s still daytime. When the sun goes down, you might want to pull up a bed and sleep to skip the night. Unless you are looking for this mob.
How To Kill the Creaking in Minecraft?
The creaking can’t be killed by conventional means. They are invulnerable to any form of damage. So running towards them with weapons is not a good idea. It also ignores other forms of damage like burning, cactus, or drowning.
They can only die if you destroy the creaking heart block it is linked to. You can locate its heart by hitting them once with anything to reveal an orange particle trail. This trail leads to their heart block. Creakings instantly die once you break their heart block. You don’t have to use your precious tools to damage them, just hit them with your hand to save on durability.
Finding the creaking heart is just part of the challenge. These blocks usually spawn inside a pale tree. Make sure you have your axe at the ready to chop down trees and find the heart fast. You can also bring a hoe with you to easily mine leaves that might be blocking your path. You’ll have to position yourself at the right angle. You don’t want to look away on the creaking while looking for its heart.

You can find a more detailed explanation of all tips listed below;
Creakings Only Chase You up to 32 Blocks From Its Hear
Creakings will stop chasing you if they are 32 blocks away from their heart block. If they go far due to other reasons, they simply despawn and get sent back near the location of their heart block. You can use this to your advantage if you don’t want to fight them.
Creakings Can’t Hurt You As Long as You Stare at Them
Staring at a creaking in Minecraft freezes them in place, and they can’t do anything about it. You can use this to your advantage to hit them and reveal the link that will lead to where their creaking heart block is.
Creakings Sink in Water or Lava if They Can’t Move
If you manage to force a creak to jump in water or lava, stare at them to prevent them from swimming. They will eventually sink down until they are out of your vision. Keep in mind that they can still swim back up once they are out of your view.
Pillagers Are Afraid of the Creaking
Illagers like the pillager, evoker, vindicator, ravager, and illusioner are afraid of the creaking in Minecraft. If you are being followed by them in the Pale Garden biome, you can run to the nearest creaking, and they will run away.
You Can Mine the Creaking Heart With Silk Touch
If you have a Silk Touch tool, preferably an axe, you can mine the creaking Heart without losing it. You can use it for decoration, as it won’t spawn a Cracker unless you place a Pale Log beneath and on top of it.
