In Dead Rails, night begins at 9:00 PM in-game and lasts around five minutes in real time. Each night, one of four random events occurs. These are Stormy Night, Cloudy Night, Full Moon, and Blood Moon. Each brings a specific threat, and knowing how to handle them is crucial for survival.
Start by checking the digital clock inside the train. If it’s getting close to nightfall, you need to decide fast – either reach a checkpoint or keep the train moving. Staying still in the open is risky. Stopping near a town is worse. Towns fill with zombies at night, and unless you’re barricaded inside a building, you’re vulnerable.
Each Night in Dead Rails
Stormy Night is the safest. No enemies spawn. But lightning can still kill you instantly. Stay inside or use a lightning rod. If you have the Priest class, you’re immune to lightning.
Cloudy Night is manageable but busy. Fast, weak runner zombies spawn frequently. Their danger comes in numbers. Climb on top of your train, use a rifle for distance, and clear them before they group up. A shotgun also works if you stay near the train’s headlight for visibility.
Full Moon is dangerous. Werewolves appear. They’re fast, strong, and have high health. Watch for their glowing red eyes. Snipe them from a distance with a rifle, then switch to a shotgun when they get close. After sunrise, collect their corpses. Each one sells for $20 at the checkpoint.
Blood Moon is risky in a different way. Vampires spawn. They’re slow but tanky, and they teleport behind you. Avoid hiding inside buildings. Stay in the open where you can see them. When they appear, react fast.
To survive, always watch the sky. Each event has visual cues, a greenish storm, overcast clouds, a bright full moon, or a blood-red sky. Use those to adjust your strategy in real time. Prioritize movement, positioning, and visibility.
