Not all things to do with the Wild West are dusty trails and gunfights. In Dead Rails, danger lurks at every stop. Zombies crawl from abandoned towns. Outlaws ride through the desert, seeking to kill. Werewolves and vampires stalk the night, waiting to strike.

Fighting one enemy is easy, but hordes make survival a tall task. Some creatures can teleport. Others move faster than you. A few can even shoot back. Shotguns will be your best friend. Rifles can save you from a distance. Melee weapons? Only use them when you’re desperate.

Zombies are your most frequent foes, typically spawning around houses and towns. Their turgid and slow movement makes them easy to handle, but beware of their numbers. For efficient dispatch, move backward while using a melee weapon or a shotgun for quick elimination. Special mention goes to Banker Zombies, found near banks. They drop valuable vault codes when defeated.

Runner Zombies introduce a level of urgency with their increased speed, appearing frequently at night or around your train. They can outrun players, making it crucial to focus on these first in a horde. The shotgun is your best defense, capable of stopping them with a single close-range shot.

Zombie Soldiers and Captain Prescott are encountered around Fort Constitution. Armed with firearms, they pose a threat from a distance. Use a rifle to neutralize these dangers before they close in. Captain Prescott, similar in attributes to his subordinates, yields a significant bounty when brought down.

Handling Supernatural Threats and Outlaws

Vampires appear during Blood Moons and near the Castle. Their teleportation ability can catch you off guard, so listen for the audio cue to respond quickly. They aren’t very fast but require significant firepower to defeat. Avoid staying indoors during a Blood Moon as it reduces visibility and increases their aggression.

Werewolves are among the toughest enemies, spawning on Full Moons or within wolf packs. Quick, resilient, and highly damaging, they require several shotgun blasts to subdue and are best dealt with from a distance. The flaming red eyes could provide a leading tip-off when they skulk around in low visibility.

Outlaws can appear almost anywhere in the desert, often on horseback, making them swift and lethal. They carry firearms and can quickly end your game if not managed wisely. If encountered on a train, avoidance is sometimes the best strategy unless you have support.

Wolves, though less threatening, spawn in packs and can overwhelm you with their sheer numbers. Any weapon is effective against them, but it is vital to manage the pack by keeping them at a distance to avoid encirclement. Keep your weapons ready and your eyes peeled; the rails are wild, but with the right approach, you’re unstoppable.
