Destiny 2 Chroma Rush God Roll Guide

The Chroma Rush is a kinetic rapid-fire frame auto rifle from Season of the Splicer reintroduced during Act 1 of Episode Revenant. Auto rifles are great all-around weapons that work well in almost all content. Rapid-fire frame auto rifles have deeper reserves and much faster firing weapons than other auto rifles. Chroma Rush is a fan-favorite weapon from Season of the Splicer that players are happy to have back in the rotation. The Chroma Rush can be enhanced, granting it access to enhanced perks in Columns 3 and 4. In this guide, we will discuss the PvE and PvP god rolls and how to get the Insurmountable fusion rifle.

How to Get the Chroma Rush in Destiny 2

You obtain the Chroma Rush using specific Episode Revenant tonics in any activity. Tonics of Vintage Onslaught Weaponty and Tonics of Vintage Tomb Weaponry can drop any of the redone Season of the Splicer Weapons. A Tonic of Chroma Rush can also be made but could take quite a while to unlock due to the tedious nature of the tonic system in Episode Revenant. You must acquire materials to craft those tonics by doing Episode Revenant activities. To unlock the weapon-specific tonic you will need to craft around 5 or Tonics of Onslaught Gear or Tonics of Tomb Gear to unlock the previously mentioned Vintage Tonics. Then, you will need to craft 4 or so of those to unlock the various weapon-specific tonics.

Unlike previous seasonal or episodic weapons, none of the Episode Revenant or reprised Season of the Splicer weapons are craftable.

What Is the Chroma Rush God Roll in Destiny 2?

A god roll is the best combination of perks and masterwork that a weapon can get. God rolls are often sought after as they are considered the ultimate drop of that weapon and the most effective roll used in most content. In most situations, there are at least two god rolls for any gun, a roll for PvE and one for PvP. The Chroma Rush PvE god roll comes with the powerful combo of Subsistence and Kinetic Tremors, which is very powerful due to it being a rare kinetic rapid-fire frame auto rifle. The PvP god roll for Chroma rush comes with the dependable Dynamic Sway Reduction and Kill Clip which pair well with its archetype and origin trait.

PvE Chroma Rush God Roll

The best perks for the Chroma Rush PvE God Roll are Fluted Barrel, Appended Mag, Subsistence, and Kinetic Tremors. These provide important stats, utility, and damage for the weapon.

The following list is the best perks for the Chroma Rush PvE God Roll in Destiny 2:

  • Barrel: Fluted Barrel
  • Magazine: Appended Mag
  • Column 3 Trait: Subsistence
  • Column 4 Trait: Kinetic Tremors
  • Masterwork: Range
  • Origin Trait: Splicer’s Surge
  • Weapon Mod: Heavy Ammo Finder Enhancement

PvE Breakdown

The Chroma Rush was considered by many to be the best kinetic auto rifle in PvE even before it was redone in Episode Revenant. The new version of the weapon has access to newer, more desirable traits and also gives the weapon the powerful Splicer Surge Origin Trait. Since its dynamic recoil pattern is affected negatively by traits that change it, avoid those barrels and go with Fluted Barrel to increase its handling and stability. The Splicer Surge Origin Trait does wonders for its reload speed, so increase the number of rounds you can put down range with Appended Mag or Tactical Mag. A Range Masterwork will round out its stats, but you could opt for Handling or Stability as well.

The Chroma Rush’s large magazine size makes it a prime candidate for the trait Subsistence, granting ammo back for every kill you make with the weapon. For those enemies who don’t go down quickly, Kinetic Tremors can activate multiple times with one magazine of this weapon because of its large magazine size. That being said, if you prefer a more general damage-dealing option for rank-and-file enemies, both Rampage and Frenzy are great picks as well. Overall, the Chroma Rush is still the best kinetic slot auto rifle in the game even if it does have more competition in the new sandbox.

PvP Chroma Rush God Roll

The best perks for the Chroma Rush PvP God Roll are Hammer-forged Rifling, Accurized Rounds, Dynamic Sway Reduction, and Kill Clip. These provide important stats, utility, and damage for the weapon.

The following list is the best perks for the Chroma Rush PvP God Roll in Destiny 2:

  • Barrel: Hammer-forged Rifling
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Column 3 Trait: Dynamic Sway Reduction
  • Column 4 Trait: Kill Clip
  • Masterwork: Range
  • Origin Trait: Splicer’s Surge
  • Weapon Mod: Ballistics

PvP Breakdown

Rapid-fire frame auto rifles like the Chroma Rush aren’t particularly favored in The Crucible, but they aren’t necessarily bad. They lack the range of other auto rifles and tend to fill the same niche as submachine guns, but don’t do the job as well. You can still make a pretty decent weapon out of the Chroma Rush though provided you build into its range. Hammer-forged Rifling, Accurized Rounds, and a Range Masterwork can ramp up the range of the weapon by quite a bit. A Ballistics mod can push that number up even higher as well.

One would think that the Chroma Rush would be a powerful pairing with Target Lock. Unfortunately, it’s too easy to miss with a single round due to its recoil pattern. But with its powerful Splicer’s Surge origin trait improving its reload speed by a large margin, Kill Clip becomes a powerful option on the auto rifle. Dynamic Sway Reduction will help the target acquisition of the weapon by quite a bit, helping you keep your weapon on your target the longer you hold down the trigger. Killing Wind and To the Pain are also viable options. Looking at everything, the Chroma Rush isn’t a bad PvP weapon, but there are just better options out there.

FAQ about the Chroma Rush God Roll Guide

Q. Can you still get the old version of the Chroma Rush?

Answer: Unlike with other weapon revamps, the old Season of the Splicer version of the Chroma Rush is still available. The old version of the weapon drops from the Dares of Eternity playlist during certain reward rotations and is also sold by Xur for Strange Coins. This version of the weapon lacks some of the modern traits that make the new version desirable, lacks the Splicer Surge Origin trait, and cannot be enhanced.
