Exploring the Dreadnaught in Nether activities offers various items, including the sought-after Essence of Desire. This crucial token plays a key role in Tome of Want, a magical ritual in Heresy that grants unique rewards. How To Obtain Essence of Desire in Destiny 2: Heresy
The Nether activity of Dreadnaught is your first step towards acquiring the Essence of Desire. Explore every corner of Dreadnaught to get Fleeting Metastasized Essentia, a glowing orb with spikes. These Fleeting Metastasized Essentia, which appear as a white rarity in your inventory, will be lost once you fail the encounter.
To make it permanently added to your inventory, you need to complete the encounter successfully by defeating the enemies and bosses in the area. This converts the Fleeting Metastasized Essentia to Metastasized Essentia of green rarity. However, equipping the Essentia Rune allows you to retain the Metastasized Essentia even if you fail the activity.
Then, interact with the Taken Altar inside Eris’ apartment and offer 10 Metastasized Essentia to receive 10 Essence of Desire in return. You can also acquire the Essence of Desire by completing the Nether encounters.

How To Use the Essence of Desire in Destiny 2: Heresy
The Essence of Desire, the seasonal currency of Heresy, is used to obtain loot during the episode. It can be used in two different ways—Tome of Want and Opening Chests. Using the Essence of Desire in Tome of Want powers the ritual and rewards you with seasonal weapons and armor.
Additionally, you can also open the treasure chests while exploring the Dreadnaught. These chests require 2 Essence of Desire and reward a random loot from the Heretic Arsenal. However, equipping the Scotopic Rune reveals the contents inside the treasure chest.
