Summum Bonum is an arc wave frame sword introduced during the Final Shape expansion in the Salvation’s Edge raid. Summum Bonum is the first of its kind as the first Legendary wave frame sword. Swords fill a very specific niche in the Destiny 2 sandbox, being either a very close-range damage option or a movement tool with Eager Edge. The wave frame seems not to fit either of those niches, so perhaps it will carve out its own place in the meta.

The best perks for the Summum Bonum PVE God Roll are Jagged Edge, Swordmaster’s Guard, Relentless Strikes, and Chaos Reshaped. These provide important stats, utility, and damage for the weapon.
The following list is the best perks for the Summum Bonum PVE God Roll in Destiny 2:
- Blade: Jagged Edge

- Masterwork: Impact
- Origin Trait: Collective Purpose
- Weapon Mod: Back-Up Mag
Swords in PvE tend to go for the same perks for the Blade and Guard: Jagged Edge and Swordmaster’s Guard. Since Summum Bonum will fill a different spot in the sandbox than most swords though some things could change with its greater perk options. Relentless Strikes is still way to good of an option to not take, but something like Unrelenting could work on this sword as well. We chose Chaos Reshaped as the new shiny perk for this sword since its also a new frame, and we don’t exactly know how it will play out in the sandbox. Surrounded is typically a great play but with Sonnum Bonum’s ranged wave attack it could be less effective.
This new frame will probably fill its unique niche in the sandbox, but we still need time to play with it to learn where that place is. Swords tend to be the best total damage for melee weapons, but since this one has a ranged aspect, it could be less effective in that regard. Time will tell.
Summum Bonum PvP God Roll
The best perks for the Summum Bonum PVP God Roll are Jagged Edge, Heavy Guard, Duelist’s Trance, and Vorpal Weapon. These provide important stats, utility, and damage for the weapon.
The following list is the best perks for the Summum Bonum PVP God Roll in Destiny 2:
- Blade: Jagged Edge
- Guard: Heavy Guard
- Column 3 Trait: Duelist’s Trance
- Column 4 Trait: Vorpal Weapon
- Masterwork: Impact
- Origin Trait: Collective Purpose
- Weapon Mod: Radar Booster
Swords are a more rare albeit effective pick in PvP. Perks like Jagged Edge to help get a little more damage on a hit are important. Rather than building into the ammo economy like we did for PvE, you want to build into the weapon’s utility and uptime. Duelist’s Trance will boost the sword’s stats on a kill while Vorpal Weapon will make it more effectively take out a guardian using its super.
Summum Bonum is the first of its kind, so it is not known how it will fare in the PvP sandbox. If its heavy wave attack can effectively take out enemy guardians, it could prove to be an effective option.
How to Get the Summum Bonum in Destiny 2
You can obtain Summum Bonum from the Salvation’s Edge raid that comes with The Final Shape expansion. Salvation’s Edge is located in the Pale Heart node of the Director. Summum Bonum can drop from the 2nd encounter, Herald of Finality, the 4th encounter, Verity, and the 5th encounter, The Witness. Summum Bonum can also be crafted at the Enclave once the Deepsight Pattern has been completely unlocked. Once acquired it can be purchased with Seals of Conquest after the final encounter of the raid. The Adept version of this weapon can be obtained from the Master Mode of this raid by completing the weekly challenge.
