The Edge of Fate expansion for Destiny 2 is set to bring some massive changes to the game. Additionally, Bungie is implementing different gameplay mechanics and balance overhauls in the existing arsenal of weapons and armor. Infusion is one of the latest systems that the expansion will add to the game. In the following guide, we’ll explore Infusion in Destiny 2 and how it will play a role in making your builds better suited for endgame content.

What Is Infusion in Destiny 2?

Infusion is the system that’s being introduced in Destiny 2 to upgrade your gear’s power levels. The game will no longer feature Power Modules. Such items in your inventory after July 15 will become useless. You can dismantle them to receive 1x Enhancement Core and 5000x Glimmer. After that, you will need to rely solely on the Infusion process to upgrade the Power Levels of your existing gear.

You can infuse a weapon or armor of higher power into a lower-leveled armor or weapon. This will increase the Power Level of the latter item. You will want to undertake this process when the lowered-level gear has better stats than the gear you’re using for the infusion. However, every time you Infuse an item, you’ll need to spend either Enhancement Cores or Unstable Cores.

With Enhancement Cores, you will be able to infuse your gear until those reach the soft cap for the Power Level, which is 200. However, some gear pieces will support Seasonal Power, where they can reach Power Levels beyond the soft cap. For these, you’ll need to use Unstable Cores. So, infusing gear past the 200 PL will require you to use the Unstable Core items.

How To Get Enhancement Cores and Unstable Cores

To undertake Infusion in Destiny 2, you’ll require plenty of Enhancement Cores and Unstable Cores. You can get the former by dismantling any weapon or armor that you aren’t using. Since the Power Modules aren’t useful any longer, long-time players can safely dismantle those to get some Enhancement Cores for free.

For Unstable Cores, you will need to find and dismantle items with the Seasonal Power. So, for any item that’s over the 200 PL cap, you can dismantle it to get Unstable Cores. You can also earn or purchase these items using the Seasonal Hub.
