How to get Wendigo GL3 in Destiny 2

To get Wendigo GL3 in Destiny 2, players will need to do Nightfalls in the Vanguard Playlist. Nightfalls, especially at the higher difficulties, have a chance to drop specific weapons based on the week that you do them. When Grandmasters open up toward the end of the season, the Adept version of these weapons can be acquired. Adept versions of these weapons get +3 to all of their stats and gain the ability to use Adept mods, which are typically much better than their normal counterparts.

Wendigo GL3 God Roll Statistics Analysis

Stat-wise the Wendigo is not much different than most Adaptive Frame Heavy Grenade Launchers. Where it shines is its perk pool and ability to use Adept mods on the Adept version. A direct comparison is the Typhon GL5, which shares a lot of its stats and perks. If you have a god roll Typhon, then farming for this gun may not be as important, unless you just want an Arc version of almost the exact same weapon with a minor boost in performance. That being said this weapon is absolutely worth chasing, especially it Adept version.

PvE – Wendigo GL3 God Roll

BarrelQuick Launch, Hard Launch
MagazineSpike Grenades
Perk 1Clown Cartridge
Perk 2Explosive Light
Origin TraitOmolon Fluid Dynamics
MasterworkVelocity, Handling
ModBoss Spec (Adept Big Ones Spec)

Barrel Perk: For our barrel perk, we want to mitigate adding to our Blast Radius while increasing our velocity. Hard Launch does this best, but comes at a cost to our stability. Quick Launch increases our velocity and handling with no cost. I personally prefer Quick Launch. Smart Drift Control is also a decent option. Note that of all the perks that matter on the god roll, this is the least important. If everything else is what it needs to be but this is not, do not feel the need to keep grinding this weapon out.

MagazineSpike Grenades are the king of DPS on grenade launchers. Because of how they work, we want higher velocity and lower blast radius to get the most damage out of them. I would argue that of all the perks recommended here, this one is the most important, to be specific. Spike Grenades or bust.

Perk 1: Clown Cartridge will overfill our drum on reload, allowing us to put more rounds down range and do much more damage during burst DPS phases. Auto-Loading Holster and Field Prep are also great options.

Perk 2: Explosive Light is one of the absolute best perks for damage you can get on a Grenade Launcher. It does require a bit of set-up, needing you to pick up an orb of Light to get the buff on a shot. This should be easy enough though as most DPS phases will start in a Well of Radiance anyway. Honestly, though, any perk here except Rangefinder would be an alright choice, but Explosive Light is the best of a decent pool.

Origin Trait: None of the origin perks for this weapon really help with this weapon’s use case, but Omolon Fluid Dynamics is probably the best choice.

Masterwork: A Handling masterwork allows quicker aiming down sights and faster swap speeds, which are extremely helpful for getting this weapon out and dealing damage quickly. A Velocity masterwork also will directly increase your damage by a decent amount. Either is a fine roll, with Velocity being preferred.

Mod:  Boss Spec.  As a primarily boss damaging weapon, we are going to want to put on our boss spec mod to have us doing as much damage as possible. The Adept version should use Adept Big Ones to increase the pool of enemies it can deal that damage too.

Conclusion: The Wendigo GL is an excellent Heavy Grenade Launcher. Currently it the best Arc element Heavy Grenade Launcher in the pool. Worth acquiring, but may not be worth farming for the perfect roll as Grenade Launchers are still outclassed by Rocker Launchers, Linear Fusion Rifles, and even Machine Guns. The Regnant from Season of Defiance is much easier to acquire and can be crafted, so it may be a more enticing option.

PvP – Wendigo GL3 God Roll

BarrelVolatile Launch
MagazineHigh-Explosive Ordinance
Perk 1Chain Reaction
Perk 2Frenzy
Origin TraitVanguard’s Vindication
MasterworkBlast Radius
ModQuick Access Sling (Adept Blast Radius)

Barrel: Volatile Launch.  For PvP, we are going the complete opposite route with this weapon. We want to hit our targets easily when they are moving, and that means more Blast Radius. You’re gonna see a trend with these perks, and for our first one we want Volatile Launch.

Magazine: There are few Magazine perks that could work here, but my personal choice is High Explosive Ordinance. Blast Radius for days.

Perk 1: The Wendigo’s perk pool seems like it was designed for PvE in mind, so our best option is Chain Reaction. You won’t be getting enough ammo for the other options to really matter in PvP.

Perk 2: Like Column 3, most of these perks just feel like they won’t really help you perform in PvP except in very niche cases. Frenzy is probably the best choice, with Rangefinder being a decent runner up.

Origin Trait: The only Origin perk with any sort of relevance for this gun in PvP usage is Vanguard’s Vindication. Stunning Recovery is actually useless, and it is doubtful you will ever have enough heavy ammo for Omolon Fluid Dynamics to ever even come into play.

Masterwork: Blast Radius is the only stat that matters. We want to be able to hit the ground near a target and do as much damage as possible.

Mod: For mods, we want to use Quick Access Sling for draw time on the base version of the weapon. If you have the Adept version, use Adept Blast Radius.

Conclusion: Heavy Grenade Launchers are a niche choice for PvP at most times. Wendigo very much feels like it was designed for PvE rather than PvP, but you can make it work. I would not farm for this for PvP. There are just so many better options.
