The Barbarian class in Diablo 4 has an ability called Raid Leader, which is highly useful, especially if you want to play a support build. The ability heals allies around the Barbarian, allowing them to fight longer without falling. However, the question on many players’ minds is whether the ability also self-heals or only bestows the healing on others. We tested it out, and yes, the Raid Leader ability does self-heal too.

The following article dives deep into the ability and how you can use it to maximize the potential of your Barbarian build.

With the self-healing confusion out of the way, you might be wondering how soon you can acquire the ability during your Barbarian playthrough. Well, the good news is that you can actually access the ability within the first couple of levels. So, you can begin with this ability and then keep improving it throughout. Most of the popular Barbarian builds have at least one point invested into the Raid Leader ability, which makes sense since it’s a great way to heal yourself and others during an emergency.

How Does the Raid Leader Ability in Diablo 4 Work?

The in-game description of the ability claims that your shouts will now replenish the health of your allies by 1% of their Maximum Life per second. Nowhere does it mention that the shouts will do the same for you. So, we tested it out with shouts that do not have any self-healing effects of their own – Rallying Cry and Challenging Shout.

After starting out with a fresh Barbarian character, we slayed a few enemies and then used the Shouts mentioned above. With the Ring Leader ability active, we could see our health orb replenish over time.

The healing continues as long as the shout effect stays active. Also, the healing effect stacks for each shout you perform. For instance, if you use both Rallying Cry and Challenging Shout at once, the healing from the Ring Leader ability will be 2% of your Max Life each second, instead of just 1%.
