The world of Diablo 4 is filled with several bosses for you to take on, each testing a facet of your character, be it build or skills. These bosses are no walk in the park, and nowhere is this more apparent than with the Echo of Varshan boss in the game. This boss is the superior version of Varshan and completely trumps its predecessor in terms of difficulty.
The Echo of Varshan boss is found in World Tiers III and IV and is only summoned after fulfilling certain conditions. How To Summon the Echo of Varshan
As stated earlier, there are certain conditions you need to meet before you can get into an epic faceoff with the Echo of Varshan. The Echo of Varshan can only be summoned after completing “Whispers of the Dead” or by defeating Malignant monsters scattered across the world. Doing either of these will grant you the Gurgling Head, Trembling Hand, Blackened Femur, and Malignant Heart.
The Gurgling Head, Trembling Hand, and Blackened Femur are for accessing the World Tier III version of the boss. All of those materials, in addition to the Malignant Heart, give you access to the World Tier IV version.
With the materials in hand, head over to the Tree of Whispers and enter the Malignant Burrow. Follow along the Burrow, and you will find the Echo of Varshan.
How To Defeat the Echo of Varshan
The moment you enter the arena, Varshan takes on the offensive and attacks you with his tentacles. The boss throws projectiles in your direction, which you need to be aware of. These projectiles cover a quarter of the arena. The boss uses them in bursts of three, so run in circles around the boss to evade them. Varshan will then cool off for a moment after the attack, giving you an opening.
Once you’ve eaten away at a chunk of his HP, he will fire off cones on the floor. These cones always cover the ground in the form of a hazard sign at first, followed by the cones enclosing in the form of a circle. This attack hits hard but is telegraphed by the ground lighting up. Stay quick on your toes and run to the safe zones to avoid the attack.
Cut away at the boss’s HP a bit more, and the Echo of Varshan will summon Malignant minions to his aid. Varshan will attempt to drain these enemies of their power and get stronger. Rush in and kill these enemies quickly before Varshan can absorb them. If you fail at the task, Varshan will be reinvigorated with a new set of abilities. The first set of abilities inflicts Daze, the second replenishes his barrier and health, and the last of the abilities inflicts poison. It is, therefore, vital to kill the minions before they empower Varshan.

The Echo of Varshan can drop any of the items listed below.
- Barbarian: Fields of Crimson, 100,000 Steps, Gohr’s Devastating Grips, and Ring of Red Furor.
- Druid: Mad Wolf’s Glee, Vasily’s Prayer, Greatstaff of the Crone, and Airidah’s Inexorable Will.
- Necromancer: Bloodless Scream, Deathless Visage, Deathspeaker’s Pendant, and Ring of the Sacrilegious Soul.
- Rogue: Condemnation, Eyes in the Dark, Skyhunter, and Writhing Band of Trickery.
- Sorcerer: Staff of Endless Rage, Esu’s Heirloom, Raiment of the Infinite, and Tal Rasha’s Iridescent Loop.
- Spiritborn: Craze of the Dead God, Ring of Writhing Moon, Ring of the Midday Hunt, and Sunstained War-Crozier.
- Multiple Classes: Frostburn and Mother’s Embrace.
