Denji is the main character in Chainsaw Man. He has simple desires — finding love, eating good food, and forming real connections. However, his pursuit of these dreams often puts him in danger. People repeatedly manipulate him, and he escapes one trap only to fall into another. Every time he gets glimpses of the life he wants, someone quickly takes it away. Fans therefore ask if Denji actually can find love in Chainsaw Man.

In short, no, he does not. Denji develops romantic feelings for multiple characters in the series, but they rarely reciprocate. Others often manipulate, deceive, or trap him in one-sided attractions. However, he may not find a perfect romantic partner. Instead, he forms deep emotional bonds with Aki, Power, and Pochita. They offer him a unique kind of love and companionship.

Denji’s Search for Love and Affection

Denji was orphaned at a very young age and had to take up the responsibility of repaying the debt that his father had accumulated. Since his childhood, Denji had no one to take care of him, show him affection, or give him a correct upbringing. Any money he earned went into clearing debt, therefore, he lived in poverty.

One day he found a gravely injured Pochita. Denji saved him and after that, both of them lived together. He ended up having a twisted view of the world, making him not have any emotional growth or maturity. His early dreams were simple: eating good food, sleeping in a warm bed, and having a girlfriend. However, due to his desperate situation, his view of love is often naive and easily exploited.

During the Public Safety Arc, Denji tasted freedom from a life of debt and gained exposure to the world. All of this was new to him and therefore wherever a woman showed him kindness he mistook it for love. However, most of these interactions result in heartbreak or betrayal, reinforcing his tragic and lonely existence.

Part 1: Denji’s Love Interests

In Part 1: Public Safety Saga, Makima is the most significant love interest for Denji. He saw her as a goddess who had entered his life and taken care of him. He was completely infatuated with her and let her treat him like a dog. As the story continued, we knew that she was just manipulating him for his Chainsaw Devil powers, and he was nothing more than a tool. The time he recognized her true intentions, Denji felt a deep feeling of betrayal as he had put his trust in her.

Denji falls for Reze, who initially seemed like a sweet girl, and developed feelings for him. However, she later revealed herself as a hybrid assassin sent to kill him. During all this, Reze actually developed romantic feelings for him and they planned to run away. Before they could meet up again, she was killed.

There is a small part where he again falls for Himeno, a senior Public Safety Devil Hunter. She tried to use him so she could get closer to Aki. Himeno had feelings for Aki. However, she does show kindness to Denji but is eventually killed. Unlike others, Denji does not fall in love with her but instead developed an infatuation.

Part 2: New Relationships?

After Makima’s death, Denji lost everyone he cared about to defeat her. Part 2: Academy Saga introduced Asa Mitaka. A girl who initially despised him but later developed a complicated connection with him. The situation was complicated because Yoru, the War Devil, shared half of Asa’s brain and often interfered. Asa confirmed her romantic feelings for Denji, but since she carries the War Devil within her, they remain uncertain about their future.

Yoru also seems to share this feeling with Denji, but there are signs that she could manipulate and use him just like Makima did. She sees him as a weapon, as her primary goal is to turn Chainsaw Man into her powerful tool by exploiting Asa Mitaka’s growing connection with him. It is difficult for us to confirm the status of their relationship, as it seems that Yoru is manipulating both of them for her gain.

Yoru knows the importance of love in Denji’s life and offers him physical affection if he manages to fulfill the task she gave him. Fans did not expect Denji to accept this hoping he had learnt something from previous experience from Makima. But this boy folded and agreed as his character would do anything to achieve his dream of having a girlfriend and to feel love and care.

Does Denji Truly Find Love in Chainsaw Man?

Denji had never known what the traditional meaning of love is; in terms of romantic love, he has always miserably failed to find one. He did fulfill his dream of finding genuine human connection. With characters like Power, Aki, and Pochita, he was able to find platonic relationships. Power became very important to Denji. She was like a sibling to him. Aki was his friend, whom he eventually openly cared for.

Pochita was a true companion as he never betrayed or manipulated Denji. Instead, Pochita always supported him, even sacrificing himself so that Denji could live a better life. In the end, Pochita’s wish is for Denji to experience the simple joys of life, showing that the love Denji always sought was already within him through his bond with his first and most loyal friend.

Conclusion

Even if Denji has women around him who tend to use him for his Chainsaw Devil powers, he never gives up on love. Denji’s resilience sets him apart. Despite repeated heartbreaks, he continues to seek love and connection, showing emotional growth over time. It could be deep rooted with him being desperate or we could interpret this as his determination to find love in his life.

All of this is a pretty normal thing to ask as a teenager, especially one who had these basic needs never met as a child. In Part 2: Academy Saga, Denji shows glimpses of emotional maturity and avoids falling into desperation. Especially when Asa was sleeping, he chose to cover the blanket on her and be considerate. That is a major improvement from his side.
