Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, despite being an Xbox console exclusive, is also releasing on PC on December 9, 2024. On PC, the game is available via Steam as well as Xbox Game Pass. And like any other Triple-A PC release, the upcoming Indiana Jones also features DRM, although not of the kind that is mostly frowned upon by the PC community.

Similar to other recent Bethesda Softworks and Xbox Game Studios titles, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will feature an optional Bethesda.net and Microsoft account linking option. However, if you were wondering whether the game will feature Denuvo or not, you can rest assured that Indiana Jones’ PC port is free of any third-party DRM.

This essentially means that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will not have Denuvo DRM on PC. The only “DRM” that players will have to contend with is the optional Xbox/Microsoft account linking. Here’s everything you need to know about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s PC port, DRM, and more.

Does Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Have DRM

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle does not have any DRM akin to Denuvo or VM Protect. Although the game does allow players to log in using their Bethesda.net or Xbox accounts, it’s not a mandatory process. Like other Xbox first-party single-player titles, the upcoming Indiana Jones game from MachineGames is playable offline. On PC, the only DRMs that players will have to contend with are Steam’s own overlay or Xbox Game Pass. Furthermore, both Steam and the Xbox overlay can be disabled via settings. It should be noted that in order to play the game early (early access via Deluxe Edition pre-order), you will need to connect to the internet upon first start up.

Why Denuvo DRM is Frowned Upon

The biggest reason why PC players detest DRMs like Denuvo is the cost to performance. Although Denuvo is a potent anti-piracy solution, it’s not immune to breaches. The DRM is often cracked by hackers within days of a game’s release. Once a game is cracked by pirates, Denuvo serves no purpose other than being an additional bloatware in games. Furthermore, there’s concrete evidence of Denuvo affecting performance drastically in games like Dragon’s Dogma 2, Resident Evil Village, and Doom Eternal. Once a game is cracked by hackers, having Denuvo only penalizes the paying customer. This is precisely why it’s frowned upon by many players.

DRM is a necessary evil in PC gaming. However, there have been plenty of Triple-A titles that did release without Denuvo or any such anti-piracy measure. And despite that, ended up being incredibly successful on the platform. Games like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Dark Souls 3, etc. are some of the examples of successful games that released on PC without any DRM.
