In the climax of chapter 2, the Coalition forces attempt to end the reigns of Dong Zhuo in an epic massive war. The ultimate goal of the mission is to defeat Dong Zhuo. You need to achieve this while preventing Yuan Shao from fleeing, which causes you to lose the battle.

How To Unlock Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors Origins
The Battle of Hulao Gate is an epic mission that unlocks immediately after completing the Battle of Sishui Gate. The successful breaching of the Sishui Gate takes the Coalition forces one step closer to their ultimate goal of stopping Dong Zhuo. The thrilling battle offers an immersive experience. The choice of your companion affects the battle by determining your starting location. You can choose between Xiahou Dun, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Huang Gai.
- Xiahou Dun: Starts the battle with Cao Cao’s forces in the northeast camp.
- Huang Gai, Guan Yu, or Zhang Fei: Starts the battle with Sun Jian’s forces in the southeast camp.
- Going Alone: Starts the battle with Yuan Shao’s forces in the central camp.
How To Complete Dynasty Warriors Origins Battle of Hulao Gate Mission
Defeating Zhang Liao and Battling Jia Xu’s forces
The Battle of Hulao starts with Zhang Liao launching a strong assault on the west of your main camp. Defeating him quickly should be the priority, as he poses a huge threat to Yuan Shao. Remember, Yuan Shao’s death will cause you to lose the battle. Any delay in defeating Zhang Liao lowers the support for the north and south forces.
Upon defeating Zhang Liao and capturing the base, head to Hulao Gate in the middle to charge towards Jia Xu’s large force. Join hands with the ally forces and take down the large army of Jia Xu, mixed with standard troops and enemy officers.
Surviving Lu Bu’s Rampage
Once you captured the base by defeating Jia Xu’s large force, Lu Bu enters the battlefield on his steed, Red Hare. Causing havoc in the arena, he poses an immense threat to you and your allies. Trying to defeat him is almost impossible. Instead, try to survive his rampage. Dong Zhuo eventually orders Lu Bu to head towards Yuan Shao, causing him to retreat from the area. Proceeding into the Hulao Gate progresses through the mission, and you will encounter Dong Zhuo’s large force.
Note that defeating Lu Bu is entirely optional, but if you manage to defeat him, you will earn the achievement ‘The Strongest’. However, defeating Lu Bu is extremely hard and requires much precision, well-timed attacks, and evading.
Defeating Dong Zhuo
Then, engage with Dong Zhuo’s large force, which includes great shield soldiers. While fighting the large forces, you should destroy two catapults to stop a devastating Torrential Inferno attack, which can potentially obliterate most of your allies. Once you manage to annihilate the majority of his army, Dong Zhuo himself will appear on the battlefield.
You need to defeat Dong Zhuo before Lu Bu gets to Yuan Shao. Taking a much longer time may cause you to lose the battle. You can also opt to go for a duel with Dong Zhuo, which creates an opportunity to end the battle quickly. Defeating Dong Zhuo completes the mission and rewards you with the Weapon Proficiency and Skill Points.
