You need to unlock craftspeople and survivors to get access to all crafting recipes and advanced gear and items in Enshrouded. Here is how to find them.
Crafters or survivors are unique NPCs in Enshrouded who will help you craft and upgrade your gear and provide tools and materials to build fantastic bases. However, first, you must free them from various locations and invite them to your home. This guide explains everything you need to know about craftspeople and where to find all five survivors.
How to Unlock All Craftspeople and Survivors
During the main story missions, you will uncloak the craftspeople, also called survivors. In Enshrouded there are five craftspeople you can unlock:
- Blacksmith Oswald Anders: crafts upgraded armor and weapons.
- Alchemist Balthazar: creates potions, brews, and buffs.
- Hunter Athalan Skree: crafts survival gear, equipment, bows, and armor.
- Carpenter Cade Hawthorn: makes anything from wood.
- Farmer Emily Fray: creates food and grows plants.
Each of these survivors will help you craft and grow your base and maybe your entire kingdom. You can find survivors locked in ancient vaults scattered throughout the world. Once you free them, you can summon them at your base with a summoning staff.
Summoning Staff is one of the automatically unlocked recipes, and you can craft it from your character menu in the Crafting tab. You’ll need only one twine resource, which is easy to find in various plants and bushes.
They unlock a wide range of new and different crafting equipment. The alchemist is helpful for consumables, the blacksmith is good for weapon users, and the hunter is critical for ranged bow users.
Blacksmith Oswald Anders
First, enshrouded will introduce you to the fellow survivor Blacksmith Oswald Anders. You can find him and the vault he is locked in north of where you start the game. Unlocking him is part of the first step in Enshrouded, so getting Blacksmith Oswald Anders is straightforward. Once you enter the vault, search the area; the blacksmith is in the pod. Approach it and press “Awaken Survivor.” Now, he will be unlocked, and you can summon him to your home base.
Blacksmith can extend his crafting recipe number and help you get better gear if you complete his quest and provide him with:
- Forge
- Smelter
- Smithing tools
You must place them in your base for Oswald to recognize them and be able to use them. Those items can be rewards for blacksmith special quests or craftable from your workbench. Progressing in the survivor’s personal quest also extends the crafting of recipes and item qualities.
Alchemist Balthazar
Balthazar, who can become your alchemist, can be found in the northwest ancient vault.
Alchemist can extend his crafting recipe number and help you get better gear if you complete his quest and provide him with the following:
- Mortar
- Alchemy Station
- Laboratory
You must place them in your base for Balthazar to recognize them and be able to use them. Those items can be rewards for Alchemist special quests or craftable from your workbench. Progressing in the survivor’s personal quest also extends the crafting of recipes and item qualities.
Hunter Athalan Skree
Athalan Skree, a hunter survivor, can be found in the ancient vault on the east side of the map. Hunter can extend her crafting recipe number and help you get better gear if you complete her quest.
Carpenter Cade Hawthorn
Cade Hawthorn, who is a carpenter, can be found in the ancient vault in the southeast of the shrouded area.
Carpenter can extend his crafting recipe number and help you get better gear if you complete his quest and provide him with the following:
- Klin
- Table Saw
- Masonry Tool
You must place them in your base for Cade to recognize them and be able to use them. Those items can be rewards for Carpenter special quests or craftable from your workbench. Progressing in the survivor’s personal quest also extends the crafting of recipes and item qualities.
Farmer Emily Fray
Emily Fray, a farmer survivor, can be found in the north ancient vault.
Farmer can extend her crafting recipe number and help you get better gear if you complete her quest and provide him with the following:
- Oven
- Fireplace
- Almanac of Plan
- Beehive Smoker
You must place them in your base so Emily can recognize and use them. Those items can be rewards for Farmer special quests or craftable from your workbench. Progressing in the survivor’s personal quest also extends the crafting of recipes and item qualities.
Workshops
An additional feature of the craftspeople is their production. The Blacksmith can create a Charcoal Kiln, and you can place it in your base. After that, you can produce various advanced materials like Charcoal, Tar, and Wood Acid. For example, charcoal requires wood logs and dirt combined to generate 15 charcoal per 5 minutes. Most early game furniture, like Charcoal Klin, is cheap. The charcoal klin requires only 20 stones to make, and you can place it in your base.
The goal should be to unlock craftspeople and create the equipment they unlock as soon as possible.
How to Increase Survivors’ Comfort Level
To increase the survivors’ comfort level in Enshrouded, ensure you place them in an area with a roof above their heads. Adding new crafting stations will also increase it, as well as new furniture. Each piece of furniture has a comfort level, and you need only one of each type of furniture. Placing multiple tables with a +1 comfort level will not increase it.
Also, the higher the comfort level, the longer the rested buff will last. The rested buff will increase your stamina regeneration speed and max stamina.
