One of the most popular MMOs is releasing a brand new expansion this summer – here is everything we know about Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail!
Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the fantasy world of Eorzea. There players embark on epic quests, battle fearsome creatures, and unravel the mysteries of the realm. Developed and published by Square Enix, the game has garnered widespread acclaim for its immersive storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and breathtaking visuals. Earlier this year the studio announced a fifth new expansion expansion for the game, titled ‘Dawntrail’. Therefore, let’s take a closer look at everything we know about the Final Fantasy Dawntrail release!
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Release Date
The global release date for the Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail expansion is officially set for July 2, 2024. Moreover, if you pre-order the game before this release date you can play Dawntrail four days earlier on June 28. Furthermore, this early access is available with a pre-order purchase of any edition of the expansion.
To be granted early access and play the new content from FINAL FANTASY XIV: Dawntrail, users need to be playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: Endwalker and to have completed certain quests.

Additionally, the developers at Square Enix are planning an expanded downtime of the game, which is intended to give players more time to download the upgraded assets showcased in the benchmark trailer. The maintenance is planned to last from 4 am CT on June 26 until 4 am CT on June 28. Assuming maintenance goes as planned, servers will be up and ready for players on June 28, 2024, at the following times:
- 5:00 am, Eastern Time, USA
- 4:00 am, Central Time, USA
- 3:00 am, Mountain Time, USA
- 2:00 am Pacific Time, USA
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Platforms
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail will be available on PC, Mac, and Steam, along with PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as Xbox Series X/S. Players who already own the game and previous expansions will have to purchase Dawntrail separately. Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Story and Setting
In Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail, we know the journey of the Warrior of Light and their companions leads them to the continent of Tural. Formerly known as the New World and located in the far western reaches of the planet, Tural beckons as a realm of intrigue and destiny. The call to Tural arises from a crucial task: aiding in the resolution of a pivotal rite of succession that will determine the future ruler of the continent.
In the announcement trailer, the narrative suggests that our adventure will commence within Tural’s bustling capital city, Tuliyollal. Moreover, surrounding Tuliyollal are diverse regions awaiting exploration. To the south lies Kozama’uka, a lush and tropical expanse, while to the central reaches stretches Shaaloani, a land marked by its arid climate and mysterious allure.
While we don’t know too much about the details of the Dawntrail story, we do know that it is the start of a brand-new multiyear story saga. Additionally, the narrative will likely unfold in two parts. First, beginning in a more light-hearted, playful way after you first land at Tuliyollal. Which then may be followed by a transition into a deeper, more narrative-driven player arc.
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Gameplay
There are a variety of new features coming with the Dawntrail expansion, including new jobs, a new raid, and ultimate raid, a new lifestyle content mode, and also new Field Operations content. Additionally, further updates promise to include new Variant and Criterion dungeons, updates to Deep Dungeon content, and new Unreal trials.
There are two new jobs, or classes, coming to Final Fantasy 14 with the Dawntrail expansion, called the Viper and the Pictomancer. The Viper is a melee DPS class that fights with dual swords that can be combined into a single twinblade.
Furthermore, the Pictomancer looks to be a combination of a support and damage class. It has a funky style and unique abilities which use a brush and palette to brightly paint spells, support buffs, and even bring fantastical creatures to life.
Thirdly, there has also been a teaser for a third limited class called Beastmaster. Beyond the name, we don’t know much yet, but developers typically design limited jobs with mostly single-player experience in mind. Consequently, they are not balanced for group play and you likely won’t be able to bring one into end-game raid content.
Finally, another new addition coming with the Dawntrail expansion will be the availability of female Hrothgar. Males were originally added to the game during the Shadowbringers expansion in 2019. The Hrothgar are a feline race that are originally from the continent of Tural, which will tie them strongly into the new story.
Dawntrail Group Content
Echoes of Vana’diel, is set to be the new 24-player raid in the Dawntrail expansion. Additionally, the 8-player raid series is called The Arcadion. Unlike previous raids, this one is said to have an entirely new story, with a futuristic aesthetic that may be set in the sci-fi-looking Solution Nine city.
Furthermore, Ultimate raids will still be a part of the Dawntrail expansion content, starting with one called Futures Rewritten. Finally, you will discover a new new lifestyle content mode called Cosmic Exploration. Game Director Naoki Yoshida also confirmed the return of new Field Operations content, which will hopefully really bring back the spirit of cooperative play to the game.
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Pre-Order and Editions
No matter what edition of Dawntrail you purchase, all buyers will receive the same in-game bonus items. These include a Wind-up Zidane minion and Azeyma’s Earrings EXP boost accessory. These pre-order bonus items will be delivered to you in the game shortly after you’ve made your purchase. You do not have to wait for the Dawntrail expansion to launch to receive them.
Additionally, there are two different versions of Dawntrail you can purchase: Collector’s Edition and the Standard Edition. The Standard Edition is a digital download available on all platforms and costs $40. Moreover, you must own the full version of Final Fantasy 14 to play Dawntrail.
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Collector’s Edition
There are two versions of the Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Collector’s Edition, physical and digital. The full Collector’s Edition will cost $214.99 and include the Dawntrail expansion as a digital download, a physical box with various items, as well as in-game digital items.
You can also purchase these things separately if you wish. The Digital Collector’s Edition is $60 and includes the expansion as well as digital in-game items including the Ark mount, a Wind-up Garnet Minion, and a Chocobo Brush.
Finally, if you wish to purchase just the physical Collector’s box (purchase does not include the expansion or digital items) it will cost $155.00.
