Mantis’ sleep ability makes her one of the most annoying Strategists to deal with in Marvel Rivals. Strategists are usually helpless against diving characters. However, this Guardian can send the fiercest divers back to their spawn by putting them to sleep and letting her team take care of them.

The ability in question is called Spore Slumber, where Mantis throws a spore to sedate the nearest enemy for 3.5 seconds in a 3m spherical radius. This ability can cool down for another use after 15 seconds. This crowd-control ability can turn the battle around in those 3.5 seconds if you don’t know how to tackle it.

One thing about this skill is that if Mantis (or anybody from her team) attacks you while you are affected by her sleep, you will wake up instantly. Other than that, there is only one way to wake up (which we will discuss later). Not a lot of people know how this ability works and make mistakes when they have a Mantis on their own team.

So, the next time your Mantis takes care of opponents with her Spore Slumber, simply let them sleep and don’t shoot them. Moreover, since this is a projectile ability with a sphere AoE, Mantis can also put flying characters to sleep.

There are not many ways of “avoiding” these CC abilities except outrunning them or outsmarting the character. Since the Spore Slumber is an AoE attack, chances are, Mantis will predict your movement and put you to bed even without a perfectly accurate shot. So, your best bet in this scenario is to use certain character-specific abilities. Cloak’s Dark Teleportation ability, which gives invincibility frames to nearby allies as long as they don’t move or attack, can help in this situation.

Moreover, any character that provides shields, such as Invisible Woman, Doctor Strange, Hulk, and Magneto, can protect their teammates and themselves from slumber.

However, if you get caught, there is still a way to get out of it early. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can directly do. But your teammates can shoot the purple Mantis ghost that appears behind you to get rid of it quickly. It only has 100 HP. So, if you headshot it, the ghost will disappear completely and save you a couple of seconds. The next time you see your aggro allies get affected by the sleep, make sure to help them out immediately. Otherwise, it may become the reason you lose.

Note that this is the only official way, and shooting your own ally won’t work at all.
