Tired of the pesky, rocket-shooting aerial vehicles in Helldivers 2? The Automaton Gunships might prove to be a handful for you and your team, especially when you are swarmed from all directions by a myriad of units.

Without further ado, let us dive into how to take care of these Gunships in this article.

What Are the Automation Gunships?

These are VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft that patrol the surroundings of Automaton Gunship Facilities. Once they sense Helldivers, they automatically tail and attack them. They have a turret mounted to their underbelly that fires barrages of rockets. The first few rockets might miss the mark, but the ones after those do not.

Getting hit by a rocket will fling you across and drop you on your back while dealing considerable damage. Getting hit by two will normally take you out completely. The Difficulty Level of these airborne foes is not Hard (5+) for nothing.

To take the Gunships down effectively, you must consider these two aspects while choosing the perfect weapon: accuracy and range.

The following are the weapons we recommend you use to combat Automaton Gunships:

  • LAS-99 Quasar Cannon: They do not need a backpack and have infinite ammo. Remember that they have an 8-second call-in time.
  • FAF-14 Spear: You should keep your distance and take cover before using these. Lock on to a ship and fire away.
  • Expendable Anti-Tank (EAT): They have a low call-in time and provide great one-shot potential.
  • RS-422 Railgun (Overcharged): In the unsafe mode, a single well-placed shot or two will take down Automaton Gunships with ease.
  • GR-8 Recoilless Rifle: Explosive and reliable, but requires a backpack and coordination. Greatly useful if you can secure a vantage point.
  • LAS-98 Laser Cannon: For long-range accuracy, you cannot go wrong with these.

To take down Automaton Gunships efficiently, remember the following points:

  • Aim for their engines because these flying menaces have separate HP for engines and bodies. The engines are their weak points, and taking those out will instantly shut them off.
  • Shield Generator Packs are a great way to survive the initial barrage while lining up your shot.
  • These airborne foes explode when they crash. You will be taken out if you are at the crash site.
  • Stay on the move. You will be a sitting duck if the Automaton Gunships catch you immobile.
  • Use Autocannon and Rocket Sentries to take care of the Automaton Gunships if you have deadlier enemies to worry about.
  • Destroy the Gunship Facilities. If you do not take down the Fabricator in these establishments, they will keep on deploying Gunships. Call in a Hell Bomb to destroy them. Moreover, work as a cohesive unit with your team.
