The College of Glamour Bard is a newly added subclass in Patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate 3 that can cast unique spells like Mantle of Inspiration and Mantle of Majesty: Command. Having learned from enigmatic Fey creatures, College of Glamour Bards command enemies and inspire allies. The subclass features minor buffing abilities, charming potential, and enemy manipulation. However, many of their abilities, including Mantle of Majesty: Command, have key features that may not be apparent at first glance.

Mantle of Majesty: Command is a subclass action exclusive to the College of Glamour Bard. It commands targets to freeze, drop to the ground, drop their weapon, move closer, or flee. The spell forces targets to make a Wisdom saving throw, but if they are charmed, they automatically follow the command. Here are some important details to know about Mantle of Majesty: Command.

  • Cost: Bonus action, requires Concentration.
  • Duration: 10 turns.
  • Recharge: Long rest.
  • Range: 18 m (60 ft).
  • Unlocked: Level 6 College of Glamour.
  • Recasting: You can recast any Mantle of Majesty variant every turn while concentrating on the spell, essentially gaining 10 free Command spells.
  • Variants:
    • Mantle of Majesty: Halt – Target cannot move or take any action.
    • Mantle of Majesty: Approach – Target will move toward the bard and do nothing else.
    • Mantle of Majesty: Drop – Target will drop their weapon.
    • Mantle of Majesty: Flee – Target will move away from the bard and do nothing else.
    • Mantle of Majesty: Grovel – Target will fall Prone.

Mantle of Majesty: Command synergizes perfectly with Mantle of Inspiration. Casting Mantle of Inspiration on allies will grant them temporary HP, and any enemies that attack them in melee become charmed. Mantle of Majesty: Command guarantees its effect on charmed enemies, making them ideal targets. When the bard concentrates on the spell, they can recast its variants on any enemy—preferably charmed—during each of the 10 remaining turns.

In most situations, if the enemy wields a weapon, using Mantle of Majesty: Drop is the best choice. Because once they drop their weapon, they must waste a turn picking it up and equipping it. Additionally, one of your characters nearby can pick up the dropped weapon. You can do this without using an action or bonus action, forcing the enemy to fight unarmed. Mantle of Majesty: Drop can also be used on enemies under the effect of Hold Person, ensuring that they are out of the fight for one more turn, even if they break out of the spell.
