Luck in Oblivion Remastered affects most skills, chance-based events, and gameplay outcomes, which can boost or penalize your character’s performance.

Luck is an attribute in Oblivion Remastered that can affect most skills and influence events in the game to the player’s advantage or disadvantage. One of the eight stats in the game, luck, is different from all other attributes. It can be set during character creation and increased while leveling up or with items.
On the positive side, it adds to nearly all skills once it is above 60 and reduces the chance of contracting a disease and triggering traps. Its shortcomings begin at the mid-to-late game, as the attribute does not scale with any skills of its own. However, having luck below 50 is not recommended either, as it will lead to reduced skill values and penalties in the game.

The effect of the luck attribute increases or decreases based on its value. At 50 luck, the stat is neutral and has no advantages or disadvantages. 60 luck provides a bonus of one, and all skills except Athletics, Acrobatics, and Speechcraft gain +4 to their stat.
At 40 luck, the same skills suffer a -4 penalty. Therefore, a character with high luck will deal marginally higher damage and have slightly reduced spell costs, among other perks. The formula for luck’s effect on skills is:
- Skill + (Luck bonus x 0.4) = Modified Skill
Luck cannot add to a skill beyond 100. Here are all the bonuses and penalties luck can provide to skills based on its value:
Luck | Luck Bonus | Bonus/Penalty to Skills* |
---|---|---|
0 | -5 | -20 |
10 | -4 | -16 |
20 | -3 | -12 |
30 | -2 | -8 |
40 | -1 | -4 |
50 | 0 | 0 |
60 | 1 | +4 |
70 | 2 | +8 |
80 | 3 | +12 |
90 | 4 | +16 |
100 | 5 | +20 |
*All skills besides Athletics, Acrobatics, and Speechcraft are affected by luck.
Other Luck Effects
Luck influences some chance-based events in Oblivion Remastered:
- Betting in the arena gives the combatant you bet on increased or reduced health based on the luck stat.
- The chance of resisting diseases increases with luck. Negative luck will increase the chance of catching a disease. This comes into play when fighting disease-inflicting creatures like mud crabs.
- Having high luck has a chance to stop traps from activating when passing over them.
- When attacking a target with the Mehrunes Razor, the luck stat influences the chance of inflicting Daedric Banishing.
Is Luck Important in Oblivion Remastered?

Luck is not a necessary attribute to focus on for most builds, as its advantage gives diminishing returns later in the game. Nevertheless, ensure that it does not fall to 40 or below to avoid penalties. In the early game, reaching 60 luck can provide a significant boost to your skills.
Luck can be fortified by several common magical items. Choosing The Thief birthsign will provide +10 to luck. Since the base value of luck is 50, choosing the birthsign will provide a +4 bonus to skills from the beginning.
