Dr Disrespect’s Recent Controversy
Beahm has always been known for his controversial videos and trash-talking. Despite Dr DisRespect’s reputation, his followers have remained loyal. He became “Twitch Streamer of the Year” in 2017. However, things took a turn when he was first suspended from Twitch in the same year. They suspended his account after he live-streamed from the washroom of an E3 event.
In 2020, he was permanently banned from Twitch, and the reason was not clarified. On June 21, 2024, a former Twitch employee took to Twitter to reveal why Twitch banned Dr DisRespect four years earlier. Cody Conners, the Twitch employee, claimed that Beahm had conversed with one of his fans through Twitch Whispers, a platform that allowed streamers to talk to their fans. He alleged that Beahm had texted a minor fan and that the messages were s*xually explicit.
Conners also alleged that Dr DisRespect planned to meet the minor at an upcoming TwitchCon event at the time. Following this incident, a number of companies ended their associations with Beahm and began distancing themselves. One of these companies was Midnight Society, a gaming studio co-founded by Beahm.
Beahm’s Reaction to the Allegations and His Fallout
Initially, Dr DisRespect denied the allegations, stating that there was “no wrongdoing” and that the matter had been “probed and settled.” Shortly after, during a live stream, his fans questioned him about the situation, prompting him to end the stream. He announced that he would be taking a break from streaming. Later, on June 25, 2024, he admitted to having had a conversation with a minor and shared a lengthy post on X.
He Tweeted:
“Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes. Were there real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not. These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual.”
YouTube subsequently suspended his account, and he will no longer be able to monetize his videos. On July 7, 2024, the shooter game Rogue Company ended their partnership with Beahm and discontinued its Dr DisRespect Bundle, refunding every player who had purchased it. Other streamers have slammed him on social media and called him out for the allegations.
