The new Pokemon Presents showed off different features of Pokemon Champions looking to simplify the competitive meta for new players.

Pokemon Champions will be coming to mobile devices and the Nintendo Switch in 2026. On July 22nd, 2025 the Pokemon Presents showed off details about the spin-off game. This included the formats of the Pokemon battles, as well as the Pokemon that players could use. However, the main reason for newer players to be excited is because training and raising a Pokemon to be used for competitive play – something which has been a huge hurdle in the past – has been greatly simplified according to the trailer.
Pokemon Champions Allows for Greater Pokemon Optimization

For those unaware, Effort Values or EVs are points that a Pokemon can have in each of its stats. A Pokemon can only have a total of 508 usable EVs, which they can get through either defeating Pokemon or by using Vitamins or Feathers. Not only was this process tedious, but there was no in-game way to keep track of these stats. You had to rely on personal calculations and pray you didn’t get it wrong while training your Pokemon.
Pokemon Champions fixes this by letting you optimize your Pokemon’s EVs without going through any of that. Additionally, you can visibly see which stats are being raised and lowered, letting you focus more on battling as opposed to keeping calculations in mind. Additionally, you can try out multiple builds this way.
This game also lets you choose your Pokemon’s Nature. A Pokemon’s Nature can give a boost to one of its stats while lowering another. For instance, a Sylveon with a Modest Nature gets a boost to its Special Attack stat, while its Attack stat gets lowered. Usually getting a Pokemon with the right Nature means hunting for it in the wild (if it can be found through repeatable methods) or by breeding. Again, just like EV training, this was far too tedious for the vast majority of players.

The selection screen above also acts as a Nature table, indicating which stat became boosted or adversely affected by each Nature. Again, not only is this far less tedious, but it also allows for more experimentation.
Pokemon Champions Seems To Have Its Limits
These quality of life features seem to require in-game currency, so there are some limitations to using them. Additionally, this game seems to have a limited roster and is expecting players to bring in Pokemon from other games through Pokemon HOME. This can be a bit daunting if players are just trying out Champions for the first time and haven’t played other mainline Pokemon games.

Interestingly, a similar Pokemon game called Pokemon Battle Revolution focused similarly on battles. Nevertheless, it relied on other games for usable Pokemon. This game, despite having superior battle mechanics, had a woeful roster, which ultimately hurt it.
Pokemon Champions does have a better roster for newer players to start out with, seemingly. However, it also looks like players who bring in their Pokemon through HOME are going to have a much better experience right now. Moreover, whether or not Pokemon whose EVs and Nature have been altered can be transferred back to their original games for tournament play is also something that needs to be answered at some point.
Otherwise, despite all the improvements, Pokemon Champions will end up sharing Pokemon Battle Revolution’s fate.
