Chrono Shield is one of the most useful mechanics in Marvel Rivals. Players who play Competitive mode will know the importance of this invisible shield that applies to your Rank to protect it.

Basically, its sole purpose is to save you from de-ranking in the game. We know how annoying it can be when you are about to reach Gold III but then get pulled down to Silver II due to a losing streak. Chrono Shield can stop it. But how do you activate it?

The good part is that Chrono Shield activates itself when you are on a losing streak! If you lose some matches in a row, the shield will activate, and it will prevent your Competitive level from going down. Usually, you will lose around 30 points after losing. But the shield will put a brake on it right away.

Once it is depleted or hasn’t completed its cooldown, you will start losing your level again. But then how do you prevent it? Don’t worry, we will cover that too.

It’s not all good news, of course. The Chrono Shield needs recharging. Unfortunately, it doesn’t recharge when you are on a winning streak. So, losing your levels and ranks after a lost Competitive match is inevitable. However, if you are on that losing streak for long, you will continue to build up the Shield.

Once it is recharged and you lose again, the Chrono Shield will come into effect. Recharging it will only become more risky as you reach higher ranks. If you are Gold and above, you wouldn’t want to lose a match, and if your shield isn’t recharged, you will de-rank pretty fast.

This is the catch to the mechanic that we wanted to warn you about. At the highest of ranks, including Eternity, there is a rank decay. When players don’t play Competitive for a while in higher ranks, they start losing points. Now, chances are that your Chrono Shield won’t be able to protect you against it.

So, even though Chrono Shield is one of the most useful mechanics in Marvel Rivals, it comes with its own end of the bargain. But at least now you know how to activate and refill it.
