Square Enix’s Dragon Quest 3 Remake, the remake of the masterpiece Dragon Quest 3, was released recently on November 14, 2024. Dragon Quest 3 Remake is chronologically the first of The Erdrick Trilogy. The game features a turn-based combat system and a unique class system.

There are a total of 10 classes (vocations/jobs) in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. They are Hero, Warrior, Mage, Priest, Merchant, Gadabout, Thief, Monster Wrangler, Martial Artist, and Sage. In Dragon Quest 3 Remake, the player’s class is predetermined as Hero and cannot be changed. However, you can pick up any vocation for your party members and can even change them in your playthrough.

You need to reach the Alltrades Abbey, located northwest of Baharata, to change the class. It is the same location where you can change the names and appearance of your party members. Unlike changing the appearance of the party members, the process of changing the class is free and can be done as many times as you want.

Find Abbot of Alltrades Abbey at the end of the hall. Interact with Abbot to open the class change menu. Select the character you want to change the vocation to and pick your new vocation. It’s now done; your party member starts a new job role.

How Does Class Change System Work in Dragon Quest 3 Remake?

Unlike most games, the Class change system in Dragon Quest 3 Remake follows a unique mechanism. There are several things you need to know before changing your class.

  • Your party member’s character must be level 20 to change their class. The class change will not be available for characters below level 20.
  • When changing a character’s vocation, they will start a new job at level 1. However, all the spells and skills learned in the previous job will be retained.
  • Additionally, the character’s personality and half of the stats are carried over to the new class.
  • You can change between all the available vocations except the Hero, which is exclusive to your protagonist.
  • Sage, one of the best vocations in the game, is not available at the start. There are two ways to turn your character’s vocation to Sage. One is using the Words of Wisdom book, and the second way is to level up a Gadabout character to 20 and turn them into Sage by speaking with Abbot.
  • Make sure to unlock your required spells and abilities before changing a class.

The Class change system in Dragon Quest 3 Remake allows you to create a cool combination of abilities by frequently changing the class and blending the skills.
