Everything you need to know about the Sorrow Among Stones quests in Path of Exile 2 (POE2), including a step-by-step walkthrough, and more.
The Sorrow Among Stones quest is part of the main storyline in Path of Exile 2. While the quest in itself isn’t particularly lengthy or complicated, its individual parts can get a bit confusing. The primary objective for the Sorrow Among Stones quest is to defeat Lachlann the Endless Lament. However, before you reach Lachlann, you need to first make your way to the Mausoleum, and defeat Draven, followed by a trek to a Tomb to defeat Asinia.
Once you’ve defeated Asinia, you can head to the Memorial Gate, which then ultimately leads you to Lachlann the Endless Lament. Thankfully, completing most of these steps is quite easy.
Here’s a comprehensive quest guide for the Sorrow Among Stones in Path of Exile 2. Do note that this guide contains elements that some players might consider spoilers.
Objectives for the Sorrow Among Stones Quest in Path of Exile 2
The Sorrow Among Stones quest in Path of Exile 2 is divided into five different sub-objectives. Although your primary objective is to defeat Lachlann the Endless Lament, reaching the boss requires a fair bit of additional work. Firstly, you need to find the Cemetery of the Eternals.
In the cemetery, you will find Lachlann, with whom you can interact to start the quest. Upon talking to Lachlann the Lost, he will ask you to collect two Memorial Key pieces to enter the Memorial Gate. If you’re having trouble locating Lachlann, you can find him near the Grim Tangle at the Cemetery of the Eternals. Collecting the key pieces is what makes up the bulk of this quest.
Here are the different objectives of the Sorrow Among Stones quest:
- Talk to Lachlann the Lost (Cemetery of the Eternals)
- Enter the Mausoleum and defeat Draven
- Enter the Tomb and defeat Asinia
- Unlock the Memorial Gate
- Defeat Lachlann the Endless Lament
Enter the Mausoleum of Praetor and Defeat Draven
The Mausoleum of Praetor can be found within the Cemetery of the Eternals. Once you talk to Lachlann the Lost, he will guide you to the Mausoleum. Once you make your way inside the Mausoleum, make your way to its heart to find Draven. Much like any other dungeon boss, Draven has a ton of HP, which can make the fight feel like a battle of attrition.
However, most of Draven’s attacks are quite easy to dodge. Draven’s attacks include sword attacks, energy projectiles, and multiple area-of-effect (AOE) barrages. While Draven’s attacks deal a ton of damage, they are quite slow. His sword attacks are quite easy to dodge and punish.
Once you defeat Draven, you will be rewarded with the first piece of the Memorial Key.
Enter the Tomb and Defeat Asinia
After defeating Draven, your next objective is to reach the Tomb of the Consort and defeat Asinia. Similarly to the Mausoleum of Praetor, the Tomb of the Consort can be reached via the Cemetery of the Eternals. Asinia can be found within the heart of the Tomb, and upon defeating her, you will be rewarded with the second (and final) piece of the Memorial Key.
Asinia’s attacks are quite similar to that of Draven’s. However, she deals much more damage with her regular attacks and has a special Cage Trap ability, which can be incredibly lethal. She also can summon a massive barrage of projectiles, which can be quite a challenge to counter.
Thankfully, most of Asinia’s attacks are well-telegraphed and easy to dodge.
Defeat Lachlann the Endless Lament
Once you have both the pieces of the Memorial Key, simply head back to Lachlann the Lost’s position and unlock the Memorial Gate. Once you enter the Memorial, you will be confronted by Lachlann once again. After interacting with him, he will transform into Lachlann the Endless Lament. Lachlann, despite his intimidating transformation, isn’t a particularly challenging boss fight.
The boss mostly uses ground-based melee attacks, coupled with a few area-of-effect abilities. Furthermore, after the halfway point in the battle, Lachlann will start using Spirit Attacks, which can deal a ton of damage. However, avoiding the Spirit Attacks is quite easy.
The best way to counter Lachlann the Endless Lament is to focus on dodging and attacking in between his ground spike attacks. Despite the speed, the ground spike ability leaves plenty of room for you to get in and deal damage to the boss. Furthermore, elemental spells work wonders against Lachlann.
Moreover, avoid the chilled ground left by Lachlann’s spirit ability. Touching the chilled ground will inflict Chill and Hinder status on your character. Upon defeating Lachlann the Endless Lament, you will be rewarded with Count Lachlann’s Ring.
