The Devourer is a fearsome foe in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2). Learn how to come out victorious in this battle and not let it intimidate you!
The Devourer is a boss in Path of Exile 2 that you will face as part of a side quest. You can find it pretty early on in the game. That doesn’t make it any less of a threat, though. On the contrary, the Devourer is as intimidating as you can expect a giant worm to be.
It is one of the few starting bosses to have a ranged attack pattern rather than sticking to melee attacks. When a boss has melee attacks, having a ranged hero can benefit you. However, there is no ‘easy’ way to win here. If you have taken it on your shoulders to complete the Treacherous Ground quest, we are here to guide you.
What To Expect from the Devourer Boss Fight?
Once you get to the Mud Burrow, you will find a giant worm inside who likes to dig burrows for himself. That’s The Devourer we need to take down. It doesn’t have any ambush attacks, so you don’t need to be on any alert.
As soon as you get close to it, you will find out that it has a basic melee attack. So, try to remain at a manageable distance. It also has a basic ranged attack where it will spit out the goo from its mouth, which is pretty much accurate.
Another ranged attack is spitting out poison along with some Flesh Larva. These Larvae follow you around and will deal Physical damage. And if you get hit by this green spit itself, it can inflict Poison debuff on you.
The Devourer burrows in the ground and comes bursting out of another end. The buried body part brings out the creature’s tail often. This tail can either deal Physical melee damage or inflict Poison. Both of these are close-range attacks.
Tackling the Devourer Boss Fight
When you reach too close to the monster, it is bound to activate its basic melee attack. The best way to counter it is by dodging out of the way and attacking it shortly after. The Devourer boss fight is not that easy, though.
Once you have dealt some damage to the big worm, it will disappear into the ground and burst out from under you. Players must look out for the ground whenever the Devourer disappears. If it turns red, get out of the zone to avoid damage.
If you have a ranged character, you need to stay as far away from the boss as possible. He will spit out the basic ranged attacks which are pretty accurate. Just keep kiting it around while dealing damage. Stay away from the burrowed tail because it doesn’t have a ranged attack.
Make sure to keep attacking the head only. When the Flesh Larvae come around, you can easily kite them around until it’s safe to kill them. Don’t pile up work for yourself by keeping them around for too long.
With these tips in mind, you should be able to outplay the Devourer in PoE2.
