Everything you need to know about the Dualliste in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, including the boss’ weaknesses and how to defeat it.

The Dualliste is easily one of the most challenging early-to-mid-game bosses in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. While the boss’s moveset isn’t particularly difficult to understand or counter, its enormous health bar and ability to dish out massive amounts of damage make it quite a challenge. And as if that weren’t enough, the Dualliste is also the very first main story boss in the game that has multiple phases. In terms of structure and appearance, the Dualliste looks like something straight out of the Dark Souls or Elden Ring games.
While the boss’s stature and design may seem intimidating at first, defeating him is quite easy, provided you can counter most of his attacks.
The Dualliste is one of the first bosses in Expedition 33 to perform Gradient Attacks. These attacks are exactly what make this boss fight both challenging and fun. Here’s everything you need to know about the Dualliste and how to beat it in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

How To Unlock Dualliste in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

The Dualliste is a main story boss in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 that you face at the end of the Forgotten Battlefield quest. There’s a second Dualliste that you can fight in the game; however, that boss fight is part of an optional end-game quest—The Endless Towers. Similar to previous bosses in the game, the Dualliste is a Nevron created by Clea. It’s a knight-like creature with four arms and a humanoid posture.
Furthermore, the Nevron wields two elemental swords—one deals Dark damage, while the other deals Fiure (Burn) damage. The Dualliste is also the first major boss you encounter after adding Verso to the party and losing Gustav.
Additionally, the Dualliste serves as a preview of the types of bosses and movesets you’ll face later in the main story. It uses both elemental attacks and Gradient Skills. Moreover, it has two phases with vastly different movesets, which is typical of end-game bosses in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.
Tips To Easily Defeat the Dualliste in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

For the Dualliste fight, the recommended party includes Maelle, Verso, and Lune. You can use Sciel if you want to focus on physical damage, but since this strategy involves using elemental debuffs to whittle down the boss’s HP, Lune is the better choice overall. As for skills, they won’t matter much as long as you can counter the Dualliste.
However, for Maelle, we highly recommend Percee, Burning Canvas, and Guard Down. For Lune, equip Elemental Trick, Immolation, and Elemental Genesis. As for Verso, stick with his default loadout and add Perfect Break and Powerful. Make sure you’re at least Level 25 before fighting the Dualliste.
The key to defeating the Dualliste is parrying his regular sword combos and applying Burn whenever possible. Additionally, using Defenseless makes it significantly easier to deal damage to the boss. By the time you reach the Dualliste, you should be able to deal 9999 damage with your critical hits.
The best approach to the fight is to have Verso start with Powerful, followed by Lune’s Elemental Trick. You can also use Maelle’s Rain of Fire to inflict Burn on the boss. Keep Burn stacked on the Dualliste, and the first phase won’t give you much trouble.
Once the fight transitions to the second phase, things get a bit trickier. In addition to regular attacks, the Dualliste now introduces Gradient Attacks into his combos. Thankfully, countering these attacks is fairly easy once you learn the timing. Check out our dedicated guide on Gradient Attacks and Counters to easily master it. In this phase, it’s best to rely on dodging rather than regular parries. The dual-sword combo can catch you off guard when trying to parry, but the dodge window in this phase is quite generous.
The strategy here is to dodge most attacks, apply Burn, deal damage using skills like Elemental Genesis and Burning Canvas, and counter the Gradient Attacks. Keep in mind that Gradient Counters deal not only physical damage but also Break damage. You can capitalize on this by using Verso’s Perfect Break skill.
Rewards for Defeating the Dualliste

After defeating the Dualliste, you will be rewarded with 27,560 XP and the Dualiso weapon for Verso. While its base attack isn’t particularly impressive, the Dualiso is easily the best weapon for Verso until you obtain the Chevalam. The Level 4 skill of the Dualiso allows you to play once more after performing a base attack. Further upgrades increase the base attack’s damage and also grant additional Perfection.
