In Endnight Games’ survival crafting horror game The Forest, players take the role of the sole survivor of a jet crash. They need to explore the mysterious forest and build their base by collecting the various resources from the forest. However, at a certain point, your inventory may become full and prevent you from collecting additional resources.

You need to drop unwanted items to get rid of them and save some space for other useful ones. Unlike other survival crafting games, The Forest has a unique drop mechanism that doesn’t work in the typical way. This guide explains how the drop mechanism works in The Forest and how to store items effectively in the Endnight Games’ survival horror game.

How Dropping Mechanism Works in The Forest?

In The Forest, you can’t drop your items directly from the inventory. Although The Forest features a drop button, it doesn’t function as expected. Instead, it acts more like an unequip function based on the item you are handling.

For instance, pressing the drop button on a rotten fish or meat drops the item to the ground. However, trying to drop other items such as sticks or logs will simply place them back in inventory. Each item in your inventory has its cap limit, and if you attempt to pick an item more than its limit, the excess item will automatically drop to the ground.

How To Store Items in The Forest

This raises another question, how to manage the inventory in The Forest? Fortunately, the developers have included a way to stash all your items in storage units/items. You can build and access a variety of storage options such as Stick Holders, Rock Holders, Weapon Racks, and more, which can be created with resources like sticks and logs.

You can build these items by opening your Survival Guide and flipping the pages to the Storage section. Once constructed, you can easily transfer items between your inventory and the storage units. Here’s a list of all the available storage items in The Forest along with the items they can store:

Bone Basket: Bone
