Build mode in The Sims 4 might seem restrictive if you like pushing your boundaries. Thankfully, we have found a way out of this situation.
Despite allowing plenty of room for creativity, The Sims 4 has a build mode which can appear a little restrictive at times. This is especially true when you plan a specific layout and the game disappoints with its restrictive ‘locked plots’ or grids which you have to stick to.
These can be a little frustrating if you just wish to build freely or have a cluttered environment/home in mind for your new virtual city. Thankfully, there are cheats to bypass this situation in the game. Just like all the other cheats in The Sims 4 , once you activate a cheat in a saved file, you will no longer receive achievements/trophies for that specific file.
Be the Ultimate Builder by Enabling Free Build in The Sims 4
For PC/Mac Users
Start with the basics and press Ctrl + Shift + C to open the cheat console. Mac users need to press Command + Shift + C. Once the console appears on your screen, type “testingcheats true” (without the quotes). This will allow you to enable the cheat codes on the saved file that you are currently on.
On top of that, type “bb.enablefreebuild” (without quotes) to let yourself build anywhere. It will also unlock the locked lots that you previously couldn’t edit in the build mode. If you wish to enhance your experience further, type “bb.moveobjects on“. This will let you move pre-existing objects in the live mode to any place you like. You are also allowed a height adjustment of 9 levels.
The fun is far from over. You can further enable “FreeRealEstate On” to build houses for free without paying Simoleons for any real estate in the game. Disable it by using “FreeRealEstate Off“.
For PlayStation and Xbox Users
For console users, the developers support cheat codes and the way to enable them is slightly different. At first, you have to open the cheat console window by pressing both of the bumpers and both of the triggers simultaneously.
Pressing those four buttons at the same time will give you access to the control panel where you enter “testingcheats true“. After this has been enabled, enter “bb.enablefreebuid” to enable the free build mode. If you wish to move pre-existing objects around too, use “bb.moveobjects on” as well.
Enable “FreeRealEstate On” to build houses without spending your precious Simoleons. You can slop this by typing “FreeRealEstate Off“.
There you go. You are now the ultimate builder in The Sims 4, who also knows how to enable free build.
