Find out how you can evolve in Pokemon TCG Pocket to make your Pokemon cards stronger, unlock their special abilities, and deal more damage.
Pokemon TCG Pocket has already become a global sensation and has seen tens of millions of downloads. Although this game is vastly different compared to the standard Pokemon TCG, many familiar elements remain.
Evolving Pokemon in TCG Pocket is a simple mechanic. It is, however, not similar to the standard evolution process that you come across in the mainline games. In this article, we will explain how you can evolve in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
Evolving in Pokemon TCG Pocket Explained
In general, you evolve in Pokemon TCG Pocket by putting a higher-evolved Pokemon on top of its base variant. You must always start with a Basic Pokemon card and evolve it to Stage 1, and then to Stage 2. Evolving entails the following steps:
- Place the Basic Pokemon Card on your board.
- Place the next evolution on top of it. This is called the Stage 1 card.
- Place the final evolution card on top of the last evolved card. This is called the Stage 2 card.
For example, if you want to place a Charizard, you must first set a Charmander (Basic Card). Then, on your next turn, put a Charmeleon (Stage 1 Card) on top of it. And finally, on the subsequent turn, put a Charizard (Stage 2 Card) on Charmeleon.
You cannot place the final evolution card without going through its previous evolutions in Pokemon TCG Pocket. This is similar to the mechanic in most Pokemon mainline games as well. Moreover, you can only do each evolution in separate turns. You can’t put a Charmander in one round and then immediately put a Charmeleon on top of it. You must place the next Stage card at a later turn.
For a visual cue, the card that can be evolved will glow with a golden border when the conditions for the evolution have been met. You can freely place and evolve in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
How To Evolve Pokemon-Ex Cards?
Some Pokemon have a special ex-variant available. Pokemon-ex cards evolve in the same manner as normal cards, and you will be able to place them on top of their non-ex Stages. For example, you can place both Charizard and Charizard ex on top of a Charmeleon to evolve it. In this case, Charizard ex is also a Stage 2 card.
Similarly, Stage 1 Pokemon-ex cards work in the same way. You can place both Exeggutor and Exeggutor ex on top of normal Exeggute in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
