Sparks are skill points acquired upon leveling up, and they can be used to unlock new moves, abilities and powers.
Black Myth: Wukong puts you in the shoes of the Destined One as they traverse the mystical lands and battle brutal monstrosities straight out of Chinese mythology to retrieve the power of Wukong. As you progress through the quest and level up, you will earn Sparks. In short, Sparks are Black Myth: Wukong’s equivalent of skill points. You can use them to unlock new abilities, moves, and powers.
How to obtain Sparks in Black Myth: Wukong
Sparks in Black Myth: Wukong are obtained by either defeating enemies or by progressing through the story and completing side quests. Every time you defeat an enemy, they drop XP. After you reach a certain XP threshold, you will level up and receive a Spark. The harder the enemy, the more XP they drop, and the faster you level up to earn your Spark.
Since the game is a Soulslike, here is how you can farm Sparks in Black Myth: Wukong:
- Kill the enemies surrounding any Shrine in the game.
- Collect the XP dropped by the enemies upon death.
- Rush to a nearby Shrine and rest. Resting on Shrines respawns the enemies.
- Repeat till you level up for a Spark.
An alternate way to obtain Sparks is using one of the game’s many Meditation Spots scattered across levels. Similar to the Places of Power in The Witcher 3, interacting with these spots triggers a short cutscene and you are instantly granted a Spark.
The Best Early-Game Spark Farming Spots in Black Myth: Wukong
Since you obtain a Spark each time you level up, the ideal farming spots are near shrines. The best early game spot that fits the bill is the area near the Snake Trail Shrine in Chapter 1.
The Snake Trail Shrine, located deep in the Snake Trail within the Bamboo Groves, has four nearby enemies that you can farm in a loop to level up.
- Once at the shrine, run up the wooden bridge to find the first enemy you must kill to gain XP.
- Then, rush back to the bridge and jump down to find three enemies lying in wait. Kill them to gain more XP.
- Go back to the shrine to rest and the enemies shall respawn.
- Repeat till you get the Spark.
- You can also use the Incense Trail Talisman to speed up the process. This legendary talisman allows you to teleport back to the shrine last visited.
The outlined steps also apply to the Forest of Wolves and the Marsh of White Mist. These spots are also great for gaining Sparks.
Explore, Explore, and Explore
While Black Myth: Wukong is fairly linear, the game has several side paths that may be easy to miss in the heat of battle. Exploring these paths brings you to enemies and side-bosses that you can defeat to gain XP and level up faster to get the Sparks you need. The Baw-Li Guhh Lang is one such boss in Chapter 1 that you can defeat to level up quickly.
Additionally, defeating The Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong grants over a 1000 XP. This will help you break that XP threshold quicker.
Developed and published by Chinese studio GameScience, Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG loosely based on the novel Journey to the West. The game has proven to be a massive success and sold over ten million copies.
