Everything you need to know about the incredibly rare Endemic Life, Gillopod, in Monster Hunter Wilds, where to find it, and more.

The Gillopod are among the rarest of the Endemic Lives that you can find in Monster Hunter Wilds. Unlike the Pillopod, its closest sub-species, the Gillopods are incredibly rare in the wild and only appear under very specific weather circumstances. Unfortunately, if you want to complete everything the base game of Monster Hunter Wilds has to offer, you will have to capture at least one of the Gillopods.
As you progress through the main story and reach the tail end of High Rank, you will unlock the final few sets of quests from the Ecological Survey team, i.e., Dareel. One of the final requests from Dareel is to help him find and capture the Gillopod.
Suffice it to say, capturing the Gillopod can be quite an arduous process, as the game barely gives you any hints as to where you can find them. To help you with that, here’s a comprehensive guide on how to find the Gillopod in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where To Find the Gillopod in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Gillopods are found in the Ruins of Wyveria, exclusively. Much like the Pillopods, the Gillopods can be found clinging to ruins and walls, often in groups of two or more. These Endemic Lives can be recognized by their rectangular-shaped body and glowing white color.
Furthermore, both Pillopods and Gillopods appear mostly during Plenty and occasionally, during Inclemency. However, your best bet to capture one of the Gillopods is to reset the map to Plenty. In addition to that, both Pillopods and Gillopods usually appear close to Wyrmways and Guardian nests. This is due to the fact that these creatures sustain themselves primarily on Wylk (Wyvern Milk).
Requirements To Spawn the Gillopod
To find the Gillopod, you need to set the weather to Plenty and the time to Morning. While you can also force Gillopods to spawn during Daytime and Evening, it is in the Morning that these creatures are more likely to appear.
Gillopods are usually mixed with Pillopods. However, unlike the Pillopods, Gillopods usually prefer to stay isolated from the pack. You can often find a single Gillopod close to a group of Pillopods, but isolated. Gillopods look nearly identical to Pillopods. However, they are much larger in size and shine much brighter.
Best Location To Find Gillopod

The best location to find Gillopods in Monster Hunter Wilds is in Area 8 of the Ruins. Near Area 8, you will be able to set up a Pop-up Camp (Gap in Rubble). Exiting the Pop-up Camp’s location, you will reach a path that leads you directly to the Guardian nest. Instead of going to the nest, stay on the platform adjacent to the Pop-up Camp.
On the wall adjacent to the Camp, you will find multiple Pillopods. This is also where you will occasionally find Gillopods. If you don’t see Gillopods on the wall, simply go back to the Pop-up Camp, and reset the weather and time to Plenty and Morning, respectively. Repeat this process a few times until you find a Gillopod.
Do note that the area adjacent to the Pop-up Camp in Area 8 is a hotspot for Tempered monsters. If you find a monster roaming the area near the Pillopod wall, use the Ghillie Mantle to avoid alerting it.
