Master the bomb-passing challenge in Split Fiction and earn the Cold Potato Achievement by completing every level flawlessly.
The Cold Potato achievement or trophy can be won in Chapter 3 (Hopes of the Spring) of Split Fiction by beating the Gameshow Side Story without the bomb going off. The entrance to the game arena can be found after the Walking Stick of Doom checkpoint. As you cross the hanging bridge, you will see a neon purple-lit platform on the left with a digital green arrow pointing to it. Head across to it and enter the side story through the portal.
Once you begin the mission, you will need to complete it without dropping the bomb or letting it explode even once. In case you fail, you can reset the side story and try again. The rules are as follows:
- Once you have the bomb, it will count down to explode.
- You can throw the bomb to your partner to reset its timer.
- Deposit the bomb in the container to advance to the next level.
The bomb’s countdown is displayed as a pink bar on it that gradually fills up and can be heard through increasingly loud beeps. You will have roughly seven seconds to pass the bomb to your partner before it explodes. The bomb will be thrown and caught using the same button.
Level 1:
Following the demonstration of passing the bomb back and forth, the GLaDOS-like show host will begin the first level. Zoe will start with the bomb and should sprint toward the container. She should pass it to Mio within five seconds, approximately halfway to the finish. Mio can directly deposit the bomb in the container or pass it back to Zoe if she has fallen behind.
Level 2:
This time, there will be a screen between both players. To pass the bomb, you will have to step onto the green circles when they activate. Skip the first circle and stand directly on the second one together with your partner. While in mid-air, Mio should throw the bomb to Zoe. She can pass it back after clearing the screen. Mio should reach the container with plenty of time to spare.
Level 3:
This time, there will be obstacles in the form of incinerator tiles in your way. Run the straight section and pass the bomb after stopping just short of the flaming tiles. Once the tiles finish firing and deactivate, cross both at once and pass the bomb after leaping across the gap. Wait for the wall-mounted tile ahead to stop spitting flames before crossing over and passing again. You will be at the container by now and can deposit the bomb.
Level 4:
In the fourth level, the host will deploy a robot that will attack the player with the bomb. You need to pass the bomb before it reaches you. As soon as the level starts, create some distance between both players. When the robot gets close to you, pass the bomb while running ahead. After a couple of passes, you can jump across to the finish, where it will not be able to follow.
Level 5:
Start sprinting as soon as the level starts and double jump over to the first tile as it is pulling away. Cross over to the second tile, jump across to the next platform, and stand on the green circle. You can pass the bomb at this point or after you are launched over the fire to the higher platform. Step or jump on the next set of horizontally moving tiles before passing the bomb again. You will have reached the container.
Level 6:
Run to the first gap, stop just short of the electrocuting wall tiles, and pass the bomb. Time your jump immediately after the electricity burst, and you will have ample time to pass through and throw the bomb to your partner. Pass the bomb once again after ascending the elevator and step onto the green circle. Once you are launched into the air, land onto the host’s head and insert the bomb into the hatch atop it.
If you complete the mission without having the bomb explode even once—except during the cutscene—you will receive the Cold Potato Trophy!
