The Shotgun in Silent Hill 2 Remake can be found in the Brookhaven Hospital chapter of the game. While you do reach Brookhaven Hospital as part of the main story, the Shotgun is entirely missable if you’re not thorough with your exploration. The Shotgun is arguably one of the most powerful weapons in the game. And, given how aggressive some enemies and bosses in Brookhaven Hospital are, you don’t want to miss out on grabbing it at the earliest.
However, locating the weapon can be quite tricky, especially given the limited hand-holding in the remake. Thankfully, finding the Shotgun is fairly easy, and you can get it quite early in Brookhaven Hospital.
Furthermore, getting the Shotgun doesn’t require you to solve any complicated, multi-phase puzzle. You can simply grab the weapon from its locker, as long as you find the exact room where it’s located. Although you will need to access the second floor of the Brookhaven Hospital to obtain the Shotgun, you automatically reach that area as part of the main story.
That said, here’s a comprehensive guide on how to obtain the Shotgun in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
Where to Find the Shotgun in Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Shotgun is located inside a locker within the Women’s Locker Room on the second floor of Brookhaven Hospital. However, before you can reach there, you must first unlock the basement. Basically, the only way to reach the second floor is via an elevator, since all the other routes to the upper floors are locked. However, to use the elevator, you need to route power to it. To do so, you need to start the generator in the basement. In traditional survival-horror fashion, the basement door is locked, and the key is hidden behind an environmental puzzle on the first floor.
How to Unlock the Basement in Brookhaven Hospital
The key is inside a safe that’s locked using a padlock. The code is hidden behind a small environmental puzzle that’s not that difficult to solve. However, do note that all code-based puzzles in Silent Hill 2 Remake are randomly generated. As such, you cannot use the same code from your previous playthrough or another player to unlock safes or padlocks. You have to solve the puzzle yourself to get the right codes. That said, the code for the padlock in Brookhaven Hospital can be found on the first floor itself.
Simply take the left route from the Security Room (entrance) and go through the door to the left past the alley. Head straight and you will find a room with a locked door. You can enter the room by smashing the window adjacent to the door. Inside you will find a piece of paper that contains hints to the code. Essentially, there are three paintings in the lobby. The code for the padlock corresponds to the number of Nurses, Doctors, and Trees in each of the paintings.
Once you get the key, head towards the Basement and start the generator. You will need to refuel it before powering it up. Thankfully, you can find the fuel nearby. Do note that the Basement is filled with Mannequins that often ambush you. Make sure you have plenty of healing vials and ammunition before heading down. You can get a few healing vials as well as handgun ammunition on the first floor. Once you power up the generator, you will be able to use it to access the second floor of the Hospital.
The Shotgun’s Location on the Second Floor
On the second floor, head to the right after the short cutscene with Maria. You will eventually reach a small alleyway that takes you to the Director’s Office. However, instead of taking the path to the Director’s Office, head to the right and then take another right after the room marked L1. Do note that the second floor is filled with the Undead Nurses who deal a ton of damage and are much more aggressive compared to the Mannequins. After the second Nurse encounter on the alleyway past L1, you will reach the Women’s Locker Room (on the left). There, you’ll find the Bent Needle key item, and to the right, inside the weapon’s locker, you will find the Shotgun.
