Everything you need to know about skills and attributes in The First Berserker Khazan, and how you can easily respec in the game.

The First Berserker Khazan might be incredibly difficult souls-like, but at the same time, it’s also one of the most accessible games in the genre. From its simplified build crafting to the inclusion of an Easy Mode, the game is quite accessible, even for players who might be new to the souls-like/action RPG genre. One of the biggest improvements in The First Berserker Khazan, in terms of accessibility, is the game’s respec system. Instead of being locked behind an unnecessary grind (a la Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring), you’re free to respec your character’s skills anytime you want. However, since it’s a souls-like, there are certain limitations to the respec system.
Here’s everything you need to know about The First Berserker Khazan’s skill and attribute progression, as well as the respec system.
How To Unlock the Ability To Respec in The First Berserker Khazan?

In The First Berserker Khazan, there are two forms of character progression – skills and attributes. Skills are mostly weapon-based, with a few being tied to survivability and a special mode that is unlocked quite late in the game. The attributes are essentially the base stats of the protagonist, Khazan. Attributes define the base values of the character’s HP, Defense, Resistance, and even Scaling. However, skills are the ones that serve as the primary means of dealing damage and the tools that you will be using actively in combat. Weapons do scale with attributes, but the skills and the upgrades you invest in define your overall combat efficiency and DPS.
For instance, if you’re a Spear user, you will want to spec into Proficiency to get higher base damage values for your weapon. However, to properly use the Spear, you need to invest in its dedicated skills and upgrades. The attributes are upgraded via a straightforward leveling system using Lacrima. Whereas skills are unlocked using skill points. You earn both Lacrima and skill points by defeating enemies and bosses. However, skill points do have a certain threshold which is unlocked after completing the main story chapters.
You can respec both skills and attributes in The First Berserker Khazan. However, the mechanics for doing so differ for both of them. The ability to respec is available right after you complete Mission 2, i.e., defeat Blade Phantom.
How To Respec?

You can respec (reallocate) your skill points anytime you like during regular gameplay. There’s no cost attached to reallocating skill points in The First Berserker Khazan. To reallocate your skill points, simply head to the Skill Tree options via the Options Menu. Under the Skill Tree, you simply need to choose a single node and press Y (on Xbox) or Triangle (on PlayStation) to refund your skill points. Or, if you want to completely reset a Skill Tree you can do so by pressing L3. While the process to respec skills is fairly straightforward, the same isn’t true for attributes. To respec attributes, you first need to obtain the Primeval Regression Orb consumable item. This consumable can be obtained as a random drop from bosses, or at a later point in the game, can be purchased from the vendor in the Crevice.
Using the Primeval Regression Orb refunds all your attribute points in the form of Lacrima. To reallocate the attribute points, you simply need to interact with a Nexus.
