In this guide, we shall go over the steps of how to respec and refund your passives in Path of Exile 2 (POE2).
Leveling up is an important aspect of any RPG, and each time you level up, you run the risk of investing in the wrong skills and messing up your build. This is true for Path of Exile 2 as well. With so many Passives to invest in, all of which contribute to your overall build, the possibility of spending on the wrong skill remains fairly high.
If you do invest in the wrong skill, worry not, as the game allows you to back-pedal on your faulty investments and respec your passives as you see fit. In this guide, we shall go over how to respec passives in Path of Exile 2.
How To Unlock Respecing
The option to respec is not available right off the get-go, and you will have to unlock it first by progressing through the first few hours of the game’s main story quests. You will have to progress through the story and reach the point where you encounter the Hooded One at the Clearfell Encampment.
You reach this encounter at the end of the ‘The Mysterious Shade’ quest in the Clearfell Encampment. There are a series of missions you will have to complete in the early game missions before reaching this point, including the ‘Reaching Clearfell’ quest, the ‘Treacherous Ground’ quest, the ‘Secrets In The Dark’ quest, and the ‘Sorrow Among Stones’ quest.
Doing so will take you about 4-5 hours in-game, and we recommend being around Level 10 or so before taking on the ‘The Mysterious Shade’ quest in the game.
How to Refund Passives and Respec
Once you’ve encountered the Hooded One NPC, he will grant you the ability to respec.
- Talk to the NPC and click on the ‘Refund Passives’ option. This will bring forth the Passives skill tree, where you can select any Passive you wish to refund.
- Finalize your selection and click on ‘Refund’ to confirm the process.
- Your Passives will then be refunded, and you can invest in them once again.
These refunds come at a cost, however. So make sure you are stacked on gold before heading to the NPC to refund and recalibrate your skill tree. The refunds can cost anywhere, starting from 80 gold, so be prepared to shell out large amounts if you intend to restructure and reorganize your passives completely.
