In Oblivion Remastered, there are many races that players can start as. Moreover, your chosen race highly affects your playthrough. This is because all races have different skills, stats, and abilities. Among all the races in the world of Oblivion, vampires are one of them. These unholy creatures are just like the ones you read about in fantasy settings. They tend to stay away from sunlight and feed on the blood of sleeping victims.

However, in Oblivion Remastered, you cannot choose vampire as a starting race, but you can turn into one through other means in-game. Unfortunately, the game does not explain the process directly, so many people can easily miss this transformation. To help you out, here’s a guide on how to turn into a vampire in Oblivion Remastered.

The only way to turn into a vampire in Oblivion Remastered is by contracting the Porphyric Hemophilia disease from another vampire, waiting three days, then resting to become a proper vampire. This sounds very difficult, but in reality, it is quite easy to do.

To get Porphyric Hemophilia, the best way is by visiting the vampires residing in the Barren Cave on the Blue Road. It is the road that goes east from the Imperial City. You can also use the picture above as a reference.

After you enter the cave, you have to get hit by the vampires until you get Porphyric Hemophilia. Try not to get killed while doing so. If you get low on health, just run away. You will know the moment you get the disease, as it appears as a message on the top left of your screen. After you catch the disease, wait for 72 hours or 3 in-game days, and rest in a bed to complete the vampire transformation.

Disadvantages of Being a Vampire in Oblivion Remastered

All the buffs and abilities may seem cool and useful at first, but there are severe disadvantages that come with them. They are:

  • Like other vampires, you cannot be directly under sunlight, as it damages you.
  • You have a natural weakness to fire attacks, which is detrimental in most combat scenarios.
  • You cannot interact with NPCs after reaching stage four in vampirism. Moreover, this makes you unable to complete most of the quests in Oblivion Remastered.
  • You can decrease your stage of vampirism by one, but for that, you have to sneak into people’s houses and drink their blood as they sleep. However, they call the city guards on you if you get caught.

We recommend becoming a vampire in Oblivion Remastered only if you wish to roleplay as one and take the disadvantages as a fun challenge. Newer players should absolutely avoid turning into a vampire, as it increases the difficulty of the game by many levels.
