For the veteran hunter, LR (Low Rank) for Monster Hunter Wilds might not prove to be much of a challenge. If you want to unlock HR (High Rank), you will have to speedrun the entirety of LR, and then do some specific tasks. It is fairly straightforward, but you must first capture a rather annoying monster in order to get here.

In this article, we will explain how you can unlock High Rank (HR) in Monster Hunter Wilds and take part in tougher hunts overall.

Here is how you can unlock High Rank (HR) in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Defeat Zoh Shia, the final boss in Low Rank (LR).
  • Talk to Nata at your Windward Plains Base Camp.
  • Go to survey the land and talk to Sassafrill (Wudwud Chief.)
  • Capture a Yian Kut-Ku.

Zoh Shia is the final main story boss you will meet in LR. However, killing him does not end the LR stage for you. If you undertake any of the hunts from the Optional Assignments, they will still be in Low Rank. You cannot access High Rank monster hunts just yet.

After defeating Zoh Shia, you will receive a general idea that this monster’s death has caused some repercussions in the ecology overall, owing to the Dragontorch’s energy. Once you return to your original Base Camp, you will need to embark on a survey of the Scarlet Forest. Here, you will meet Sassafrill, a resident of the Wudwud village. This NPC will inform you of a Yian Kut-Ku infestation, and your next task will be the capture a Yiak Kut Ku.

This is a very important thing to remember – you must capture a Yian Kut-Ku and not kill it. We at Deltia’s Gaming had to complete this quest thrice because we ended up killing Yian Kut-Ku in our first two tries, which failed the quest and prevented the unlock of High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds.

After this, the monsters that you will encounter in the wild will all be Hight Rank monsters. Once you defeat them in the open-world, you will also unlock them as HR Optional Assignment hunts in Monster Hunter Wilds.
