The Wood Side Apartments is one of the earliest areas in Silent Hill 2 Remake. And despite being a rather small section of the game, the Wood Side Apartments is home to some of the most complicated puzzles in the game. As James Sunderland, the game’s protagonist, makes his way through the upper floors of the apartment complex, he will eventually reach a hidden room behind a carefully placed cupboard. Inside this hidden room, you will find a safe that houses a piece of another puzzle that you need to solve in order to progress through Silent Hill 2 Remake’s main story. However, the safe is locked using a combination lock, with seemingly no clue on how to find the code to unlock it.
Much like any other code-based puzzle in Silent Hill 2, of which there are plenty, the Wood Side Apartments safe employs a randomly generated code. As such, you cannot use the same code from another player or your previous playthrough of the game to unlock the safe. Thankfully, finding the solution to the safe isn’t particularly difficult. The code for the safe can be found within the same room as the safe. However, locating the solution can be a bit tricky. Where to find the Wood Side Apartments safe in Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Wood Side Apartments safe is hidden behind a wooden wardrobe. To unlock the path to the safe, you first need to obtain the key item – Golden Apple. Thankfully, the Golden Apple can be obtained on the first floor of the Wood Side Apartments. The Golden Apple is found near the area where you obtain the torch. Once you have the Golden Apple, wait till you eventually make your way to the second floor of the apartment complex. Once you reach the second floor, head to room – 206. Inside room 206, interact with the wardrobe and use the Golden Apple to unlock it. After unlocking the wardrobe, you will be able to move it to reveal a hidden path behind it.
Enter the hidden path to reach the safe that contains one of the three medallions required to solve the puzzle on the first floor. The room that houses the safe has multiple scribblings across its walls. These scribblings contain the clue to the safe’s code.
What is the code for the Wood Side Apartments safe in Silent Hill 2 Remake
To unlock the Wood Side Apartments safe, you need to interact with the wall adjacent to it. The wall has a short poem written on it. This poem is the clue to the codes that you need to unlock the safe. This is essentially an environmental puzzle that requires careful observation of the surroundings to deduce the solution to the puzzle. The problem that players might face here is that the code is somewhat hard to locate within all the scribbling and writing across the entire room. With the way the room’s set up, it can be quite hard to discern the codes written across different walls from the other writing and scratches on the walls. However, the torch here comes in very handy.
You essentially need to look for three things – a House, a River, and Footsteps. These three images contain the code needed to unlock the safe. To locate these three images, simply shine the torch across the walls and look for the images that shine bright white. These images will be accompanied by a number, which is the code. Use the code in the format – River > Footsteps > House to unlock the safe. The safe contains the medallion of Man. This is one of the three medallions that you need to progress through the main story of Silent Hill 2 Remake.
