Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the latest entry in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series. Although it has many features in common with its predecessor, FF7 Rebirth has also overhauled some systems. One such feature is the weapon upgrade system.

It is not possible to manually upgrade weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Most weapon properties, like the Physical and Magical Attack Stats and the number of available Materia slots, among others, are innate and cannot be changed. However, you still need to talk to the weapons vendor in Chapter 2 of the story to unlock the Upgrade Weapons tab in the Main Menu.

This does not mean it is impossible to improve your weapons. Weapon Skills are the main way to make your weapons stronger.

What Are Weapon Skills in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

Weapon Skills are abilities that vary from weapon to weapon. They are automatically unlocked as you increase your Weapon Level. Each weapon has unique Weapon Skills and a set number of slots to equip these skills.

These skills have a variety of effects. Some skills simply boost your stats, while others have more interesting effects. For example, ATB Charge Rate Up increases your ATB charge rate, while Reprieve protects you from a fatal attack once per battle.

You can mix and match these skills as you want, as long as you have the slots to equip them.

What Is Weapon Level in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

A character’s Weapon Level is independent of the other characters and automatically increases as they gain more SP. SP is obtained by leveling up your party members. Note that you don’t actually need to spend SP to increase your Weapon Level; simply gaining the SP is enough to increase your Weapon Level.

Each character uses a specific type of weapon. For example, the protagonist, Cloud, is the only party member who uses a sword. As his Weapon Level increases, new Weapon Skills are unlocked for all swords.

As your Weapon Level increases, it grants a variety of other benefits as well. Each weapon gets a passive stat increase at each Weapon Level. Occasionally, it may also increase your number of Weapon Skill slots. It may even increase the number of Materia slots, one of the most valuable resources in the game.

Weapon Proficiency in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Each weapon has a special ability that can be found just above the weapon itself in the Upgrade Weapons menu. These abilities can only be used with that particular weapon.

However, there is a workaround for this. By using a weapon in fights enough times, you can increase its proficiency. Reaching maximum proficiency will allow you to have its ability equipped even if you are using a different weapon.

This was everything you need to know about upgrading weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. What is your favorite weapon to use?
