Currency Exchange in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) is helpful but can be a bit confusing. Let us guide you through the process.

Currency Exchange in Path of Exile 2 is a returning feature from the Settlers of Kalguur League in the original installment. The term is a fancier word for ‘trading’, which can be a useful feature in any RPG. However, what really sets PoE2 apart is having an exchange rate. This is where things get complicated.

We will get to the complicated exchange rate in the later part of this article. First, let’s learn how to use Currency Exchange. You would want to begin by starting the game in Cruel Mode. This is a hardened version of the normal mode and has the same story content as the regular ones. The exchange will open during the first Act in this mode.

There are three major merchants for Currency Exchange in Path of Exile 2:

  • Finn in Clearfell Encampment (Cruel Act 1)
  • Risu in Ardura Caravan (Cruel Act 2) – After defeating Rudja the Dread Engineer
  • Alva in Ziggurat Encampment (Cruel Act 3)

Talking to these specific merchants will open the exchange window. You can now select your desired currency in the I Want section on the left. The currency you will be using to exchange are to be put on the right side, under the I Have segment.

  • Type in the quantity of the desired currency and the game will automatically fill in the quantity of the I Have currency, based on the exchange rate.
  • Note that you can change the I Have quantity but keep in mind the Market Ratio in the middle.
  • If you have insufficient currency to offer, the Place Deal button won’t work.
  • If you have plenty funds, the order will say Order Completed and you can claim the item using CTRL + Left Click. Just make sure you have enough inventory space.

The Market Ratio Concept

How the Market Ratio works is a bit complex for an RPG like Path of Exile 2. It’s pretty brilliant, in my opinion, how they managed to do this in a single-player game, while still connecting it to the rest of the servers.

The Market Ratio changes constantly based on how often or rarely things are used for their exchange. These remain the same in all servers and are uniform for each specific League.

The displayed ratio often also shows how much a bulk order would cost you. However, the best part about it is that you don’t have to strictly follow the Market Ratio. You can wait until the deal is in your favor.

The Market Ratio in the middle of the Currency Exchange window can also show ‘no data’. This happens when the proposed exchange combination has never happened before and there is no buyer for the currency you are offering.
