The debug console is disabled by default. Luckily, enabling it is a straightforward process that requires a minor modification to the AppOptions.txt file. However, we recommend you to back up the file before making any changes. Here is how to enable the debug console in Civilization 7:
- Locate the AppOptions.txt file by navigating to: User/AppData/Local/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier’s Civilization 7.
- Open the AppOptions.txt file using any text editor, such as Notepad.
- Find the ‘;EnableDebugPanels -1’.
- Replace it with ‘EnableDebugPanels 1’,
- Ensure you remove the semi-colon at the beginning. Failing to do so prevents the debug console from working.
- After making the changes, save the file and launch Civilization 7.

How To Use Debug Console for Cheats in Civilization 7

To bring up the debug console menu, hit the tilde (~) key. In some cases, you may need to press the Apostrophe (‘) key instead. You can move the console to the top or bottom of the screen by pressing the Move option. Selecting the Debug option displays all the debug tools. The console brings several built-in settings and options to tweak and modify the game, instead of entering specific commands and codes. Among these, four key options allow you to perform useful cheats:
- UI tab > Gameplay > Force Age Transition: Instantly ends the current age and skips to the next one.
- Map > Debug > Reveal All: Reveals everything on the map with full vision.
- Map > Debug > Explore All: Reveals the full map without offering complete vision.
- Map > Debug > Enable FOW: Unchecking the option removes the Fog of War.
