Here, you’ll learn about Art, a man who won’t wake up. First J’ehlar is by his side at the inn, who you’ll talk with to start the quest. She’ll talk to you about what they know about Art. If you agree to help, she will also give you a letter Art Cullagh had in his pocket. You’ll learn from this letter that he was sent to investigate the nearby “House of Healing.”

Journey to the House of Healing

When you find the House of Healing, you must work your way into the large central chamber. This is where you’ll find the item to wake up Art Cullagh in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Malus Thorm BG3

Here, you’ll meet Malus Thorm, the house surgeon. He’s in the middle of a gruesome “demonstration” for his nurses. While you can of course choose to fight Malus Thorm and the nurses, he’s challenging to kill.

Instead, through the dialogue, you can either convince him to force the nurses to kill each other or him. The latter option makes things much easier, as you need Malus to die to wake up Art Cullagh in Baldur’s Gate 3.

By telling Malus he must submit to teach the nurses, he will allow them to kill him to “steady their hands.” This is the easiest way to deal with this encounter. Once Malus is dead, you’ll loot his body to take the Battered Lute.

To wake up Art Cullagh, you’ll need to play the Lute through the dialogue options that are available. When he hears the Lute, he’ll wake up and give you information about where to find Thaniel, the spirit of the land. This option is only available if Halsin is still alive, who he’ll ask for as soon as he wakes up.

If Halsin is still alive, he’ll help you continue the quest to try to lift the Shadow-Curse.
