The game also boasts a white, green, and blue color palette, making every sight a joy to behold. Visuals and aesthetics aside, the major cities are also well-structured with opportunities for parkour, camps to raid, and plenty of other activities and quests.
2) A Light-Hearted Story
Taking inspiration from Homer’s Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s story boasts a nice blend of humor and tragedy, as is the case with any Greek epic. The story features a massive cast of characters, all of whom hold likable traits that add life to the story. While the story does hold elements of tragedy, it never steers too far into taking itself seriously, which makes the whole experience pleasant.
3) Naval Combat
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey brings back the series’ famed naval combat. Prior to Odyssey, the combat was last seen in Assassin’s Creed Rogue in 2014. Odyssey replaces gunpowder and related weapons in combat with fire arrows of all sorts. As a result, the combat lasts longer and requires greater strategy. As you travel from island to island, you’ll be presented with several opportunities to engage in naval combat to earn legendary armor, kill mercenaries, and hunt cultists.

While the game is a good time, it is not without its flaws, some of which may make you reconsider playing it. These flaws and faults are as follows:
1) Lots of Bloat
Perhaps the biggest complaint directed towards Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the bloat that plagues the game. The game takes well over 45 hours to complete, and that is if you’re rushing through the game. The story, while fun, starts to drag in the second half, often artificially so through level-gating. You’re then forced to engage in camp raiding and other side quests to level up and progress through before reaching the next level requirement.
2) Weak Protagonists
Following Bayek was always going to be a tough ask, but even then, Odyssey does very little to make its protagonists likable. The characters, despite their seemingly complex motivations, feel one-note.
While the writing is at fault, a large chunk of this is also due to the game’s dialogue choice system. This system allows the player to dictate the story and character development, opening room for inconsistencies. Still, a dialogue choice system never hindered Geralt of Rivia as a character in The Witcher 3. We fail to see why it could not be the same case for Kassandra/Alexois.

Yes, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is absolutely worth playing, even despite its flaws. The game’s combat and gameplay loop are mind-numbingly addictive, keeping you engaged for hours. However, we recommend playing the game in short bursts for a few hours instead of pulling all-nighters. With the game’s sheer length, you run the risk of burnout. We also recommend experimenting as much as you can with the builds, as the game offers you plenty of freedom to be the demigod you want to be.
